Mets calling up Luisangel Acuna before doubleheader vs. Orioles
Luisangel Acuna is returning to the big leagues.
The Mets are calling up the 23-year-old infielder ahead of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Orioles in Baltimore, The Post’s Jon Heyman reports.
It’s unclear as of this writing whether he is serving as the 27th man for the twin bill, or if he is taking someone’s spot on the roster.
Acuna, who has mostly played second base this year but has also appeared at shortstop and third base with a one-game cameo in center field, was optioned to Triple-A on June 23.

In 12 games for Syracuse, Acuna is hitting .289 with a .724 OPS, nine runs, four RBIs and four stolen bases.
Acuna has a .241 average, .576 OPS, six RBIs and 11 steals across 158 MLB plate appearances this season.
Wednesday’s game was rained out, which resulted in Thursday’s regularly scheduled 1:05 p.m. start to be moved up to 12:05, with the second game of the split-admission doubleheader set for 5:05.
