How Cam Skattebo has proven doubters wrong every step of way to Giants
His earliest skeptics are now his strongest believers.
Becky Skattebo — who was already a parent of three and herself in the medical field, so experienced with infant issues — could not place what was going on with her 9-month-old’s stomach and feared a hernia. She brought him to see a pediatrician only to be told that what she was looking at were defined muscles that had not yet come together.
The reality was that before his first birthday, Cameron Skattebo had a six-pack.
For Christmas in 2004, a not yet 3-year-old Cameron received a black and yellow bicycle that came with training wheels. A kid who already was restless and already was advanced — the bowlegged child had started walking at about 6 or 7 months and broke out of every car seat his family could find — was insistent: There was no way he was getting on this new toy with an added layer of safety. His parents relented, and his grandfather removed the training wheels.
