Dog the Bounty Hunter’ son Garry Chapman reinstated as Alabama police officer after deadly high speed chase
Dog the Bounty Hunter’s police officer son was voted back to the Alabama force he was fired from and filed a $10 million wrongful termination suit over a high-speed chase that killed a 17-year-old boy.
Priceville Police Officer Garry Chapman’s termination was reversed in a unanimous decision by the city council on Monday, hours after his lawyer filed suit, WHNT reported.
Chapman, the 24-year-old son of “Dog the Bounty Hunter” series stars Alice and Duane Chapman, had previously been placed on leave before being fired for the Sept. 6 chase.
The Priceville City Council approved to reinstate Chapman after a two-and-a-half-hour closed-door session, during which the officer’s famous father testified at the hearing.
The “Dog the Bounty Hunter” star commended city council officials and said he would stand up for the councilors if they ever needed it.
“Garry is my youngest son of 13 children, and he always wanted to be a police officer,” the elder Chapman told the city council, according to AL.com. “We understand what tragedy is also. But I would like to also commend this committee for giving my son a second chance.
“I’m known as a second chance guy and I appreciate every time and if any of you want me to, you know, stick up for you the next session, you want to be voted in, I will be here for you.”
The newly reinstated cop came under fire after he had attempted to pull over accused driver Archie Hale for moving violations and suspected DUI.
Hale failed to stop, instead taking Chapman and other officers on an inter-city chase down I-65 into neighboring Hartselle at around 8:30 p.m.
The chase reached speeds of 100 mph before Hale allegedly crashed into a minivan carrying four teenagers, including Tristan Hollis.
Hollis was mortally wounded in the crash and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The three other passengers in Hollis’ car, along with Hale and his passenger, were all injured in the crash.
Hale was released from a hospital and booked by Hartselle Police on a slew of charges, including reckless murder, drug possession and traffic violations, according to booking records viewed by The Post.
He is being held in Morgan County Jail without bond.
Chapman was placed on administrative leave after the crash before Priceville Police Chief Jerry Holmes fired him for violating department chase policies.
The department claimed Chapman should have re-evaluated his decisions when the chase speed reached triple-digits and brought him into an area of the neighboring city he was unfamiliar with, the outlet reported.
Mayor Sam Heflin, who upheld the decision to fire Chapman, recused himself from Monday’s vote.
Chapman was originally hired by the Priceville Police Department in January 2025.
He previously worked for six different law enforcement agencies across northern Alabama in three years, WHNT reported.
Chapman received two written reprimands during his time with Priceville. One for administrative errors and another for a confrontation with another officer, according to the outlet.
The second reprimand notes Chapman’s history of speeding
