Here are some of the most notorious of the 250 Palestinian prisoners set to be released next week — and what they did

As part of the US-brokered cease-fire in Gaza, Israel is set to free 250 Palestinians serving prison sentences — possibly as soon as next week.

Israeli officials published the list of prisoners Friday, and while the most popular Palestinian leader — Marwan Barghouti — is not among those set to be released, some notorious terrors are. 

They have been convicted of terrorism-related crimes over the past two decades, although they are not believed to be Hamas members involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack, according to reports.

Among those set to be released are:

Mahmoud Qawasmeh: A 45-year-old senior Hamas member who was released during a 2011 prisoner exchange and then allegedly went on to finance and plan the 2014 kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank, for which he was re-arrested in March 2024.

Imad Qawasmeh: A 52-year-old local Hamas leader convicted of directing a double suicide bombing that killed 16 Israelis in 2004. He was tracked down by Israeli soldiers and arrested in his underwear in the West Bank two months after the attack. He is alleged to be one of the “leaders” of the terrorists in prison — where he’s serving 16 life sentences — according to the Prisoners Organization Media Office.

Morad Bader Abdullah Adais: A 25-year-old Palestinian convicted of stabbing to death Dafna Meir, a 39-year-old mother of six, in 2016 with a kitchen knife. He was 16 at the time and allegedly returned home to watch a movie with his family after the slaying.

Bilal Ajarmeh: A Fatah operative convicted of conducting 17 shooting attacks along the highway in Israel and arrested by Israeli special forces in the West Bank in 2003.

Hilmi Abdul Karim Muhammad Hammash: He was sentenced for coordinating the 2004 Jerusalem street bus suicide bombing that killed 11 Israelis, plus the bomber, and wounded 50 others.

Iyad Abu al Rub: An Islamic Jihad commander in the West Bank who was convicted of orchestrating a series of deadly suicide bombings in Israel that killed 13 people between 2003 and 2005.

Ahmad Ismail Ahmad Qawassmeh: A 35-year-old Hamas terrorist serving a life sentence for murdering a rabbi, Shaya Ben David, in 2018.

Baher Badr: A Hamas member arrested who was arrested in 2004 with his brother for planning a bus station suicide bombing near an IDF base that killed eight people.

Ismail Hamdan: A Fatah member who was convicted in the 2002 kidnapping and shooting death of an Israeli man. He was captured at a check point in the West Bank.

Mohammad Nasser Sha’aban Abu Rabea: A 31-year-old Hamas operative serving a life sentence for the stabbing death of two Israeli civilians in 2015.

Barghouti, who will remain behind bars, is serving multiple life sentences after his 2004 conviction for attacks that killed five Israelis.

The Jewish state is also planning to release another 1,700 people seized from Gaza over the past two years and held without charge — another stipulation in the deal reached this week — in exchange for the release of the 48 remaining hostages held by the terror group.

With Israeli troops beginning its agreed-to pullback from the Strip as part of phase one on Friday, Hamas has said it will release the 20 Israeli hostages believed to still be alive by a Monday deadline.
