Shedeur Sanders responds to Rex Ryan’s criticism
Shedeur Sanders used his words this time to respond to Rex Ryan.
Sanders gave verbal responses — as opposed to his mime routine when asked previously — regarding Ryan’s comments made on ESPN’s “Get Up” last week, saying that he is not speaking on “anything negative.”
“He’s just trying to start something,” Sanders told reporters Friday. “We not on no negativity from now on. We not doing that. I’m just here to be positive, and I don’t speak on anything negative.
“That’s the new way, that’s what we going forward with. Anything negative, we not talking about it, we not speaking on it.”
Sanders, 23, also clarified his mime routine — which was met with harsh criticism — saying that he is trying to keep his personality “a little bit slimmer.”
“I guess not everybody likes playful all the time,” Sanders added. “So, it’s to understand how to be at all times and keep my personality a little bit slimmer, I guess.
“Because not everybody understands it at all times, and you may not have a full time to be able to explain things.”
Sanders’ comments come after the former Jets head coach lambasted the rookie quarterback, claiming that his attitude is holding him back from starting for the Browns.
“Something’s missing with this kid. This kid talks and he runs his mouth. Like he said, ‘I can be a starting quarterback’ with his arms crossed like this,” Ryan said. “Get your ass in the front row and study and do all that.
“If I know, the whole league knows.
“Quit being an embarrassment that way. You’ve got the talent to be the quarterback — you should be. You should be embarrassed that you’re not the quarterback now.”
Following the trade of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Bengals on Tuesday, Cleveland announced Friday that Sanders will be the No. 2 QB for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.
Fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel is set to start the Week 6 contest, which will mark the second start of his NFL career.
