Curtis Sliwa says he has 24/7 security after receiving ‘credible’ threats — but NYPD hasn’t receive reports
GOP mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa revealed Monday he’s receiving around-the-clock security because of “credible” threats urging him to drop his longshot campaign — but the NYPD said it has no record of them.
The campaign for the founder of the Guardian Angels, which has patrolled the subway for decades, said Sliwa needs a team of retired and off-duty cops after threats were also leveled against his wife over the weekend.

He’s faced growing pressure to abandon his run so former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo can square up one-on-one against socialist Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, in the general election after Mayor Eric Adams dropped his reelection bid last week.
Sliwa said during a Monday press conference he isn’t blaming competing campaigns, but there “are people out there who are probably unstable to begin with who believe I have to drop out of this race or it’ll be the end of New York City as we know it.”
Sliwa, who also ran for mayor in 2021 and was once shot five times in an assumed mob hit job, said this is the first time in his life he needs 24-7 security.
He said “some of these threats were very credible,” but the NYPD had no record of them.
“There are no reports to the NYPD of credible threats,” a department spokesperson said in an email on Monday.

Law enforcement sources also told The Post the police department has yet to receive any reported threat against Sliwa.
A Sliwa spokesperson insisted to The Post that Sliwa and his spouse, Nancy, have a briefing with the NYPD on Tuesday, and that the head of security for the campaign and chief of intel for the NYPD have been in contact.
The security is being paid by Sliwa’s campaign, his spokesperson added.
Sliwa has previously claimed he’s been bribed by powerful supporters of Cuomo to exit the race – a charge the ex-governor campaign flatly dismissed.
Sliwa has consistently said he won’t exit the race.
The heightened security for Sliwa comes amid a torrent of political violence across the US and after Mamdani, who easily won the Democratic primary in June, was also forced to bring on security last spring after facing a deluge of vile threats.
