Ex-Jets star Mark Sanchez released from hospital, taken directly to jail after alleged drunken assault on elderly truck driver

Former football star Mark Sanchez was released from the hospital and sent straight to jail after he allegedly assaulted an elderly man who then stabbed him during a drunken Indianapolis brawl, according to reports.

Sanchez, 38, was discharged from the hospital Sunday morning after being treated for stab wounds to the chest he sustained Friday night, TMZ reported.

But the former Jets Quarterback wasn’t sent on his merry way. Instead, Sanchez was brought to central booking at the Marion County Jail, as he’d already been arrested and charged with public intoxication and battery while he was in the hospital.

Sanchez likely won’t spend any time behind bars, however, as he reportedly posted his $300 cash bond before being booked.

The football star allegedly battered a 69-year-old grease truck driver who was picking up restaurant refuse in an Indianapolis alleyway, according to cops.

Sanchez was apparently running sprints in the alley, and he became enraged that the worker’s truck was blocking his way.

Things escalated after the old man couldn’t hear the drunken Sanchez because he’d removed his hearing aids. The 230-pounder then allegedly slammed him into the ground by a dumpster.

“This guy is trying to kill me,” the driver told police he was thinking, prompting him to stab Sanchez in self defense.

The truck driver even pepper-sprayed Sanchez before reaching for something to stab with, but Sanchez allegedly kept attacking him, according to police.

Photos from the aftermath showed the elderly man bloodied in a hospital bed with his head propped up with a neck brace, and a grisly laceration to his cheek.

“His family says he was cut in the fight and it went through his cheek and hit his tongue,” Fox59 reported alongside the graphic images.

He was in Indianapolis for his new gig as Fox Sports analyst.
