‘Gilmore Girls’ Turns 25! Here Are 25 Ways You Can Celebrate
Gilmore Girls isn’t just a show — “It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion.”
On Oct. 5, the beloved dramedy from Amy Sherman-Palladino turns 25. Following cool single mom Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her book-loving daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), in Stars Hollow, Conn., the series ran for six seasons from 2000 to May 2006 on The WB before concluding its final season on The CW from September 2006 to May 2007.
Netflix revived the show in November 2016 as a four-part limited series titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Picking up the story nearly a decade after the finale, the revival featured the original cast members, with each episode representing a season of the year.
In September 2025, Graham and Bledel reunited at the Emmy Awards, where the pair presented the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
“Twenty-five years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and, apparently, took the season of fall hostage,” Graham joked, with Bledel adding, “in spite of our autumnal dominance [Gilmore Girls] was actually a very small show.”
Decades later, it remains the ultimate seasonal watch, as fans return every year for the endless coffee orders, mile-a-minute dialogue, Rory’s stack of novels and the unique residents of the quaint Stars Hollow.
While we can’t hop on a train to the fictional Connecticut town, we can honor the 25th anniversary of Gilmore Girls and its characters with these inspired ideas.
Do anything fall related
Netflix
Starting with the obvious! Aside from a few snowy episodes, Stars Hollow always feels like autumn. Embrace that cozy energy by visiting a pumpkin patch, sipping cider, wearing sweaters or wandering through a charming small town to channel your inner Gilmore.
Train yourself to talk 167 words a minute
Netflix
“Life’s short. Talk fast!”
Sherman-Palladino’s scripts pushed the cast into rapid-fire delivery — averaging 167 words per minute, according to WordFinderX. Test yourself by reading a novel aloud like an audiobook on 3x speed, or try reciting your favorite monologue like you’re being fast-forwarded.
Visit an antique store
Netflix
In honor of Kim’s Antiques, pop into a local vintage shop and try to find any Stars Hollow-like treasures — maybe even a quirky piece for your home.
Book a stay at a bed and breakfast
Patrick Ecclesine/The WB
It might not be the Dragonfly Inn, but a B&B offers a homey, one-of-a-kind vacation with plenty of personal touches. If you’re lucky, the cooking will be as good as Sookie’s (Melissa McCarthy) was on the show.
Try a few side gigs like Kirk
Netflix (3)
Swan delivery man. Termite inspector. Wedding DJ. Kirk (Sean Gunn) had what felt like an infinite cycle of odd jobs in Stars Hollow. Take a page from his long résumé and dabble in a side hustle (or three).
Put on a flannel and a backwards hat, and make a pot (or five) of coffee
Warner Bros
In the words of Lorelai, “I need coffee in an I.V.,” which you’ll need plenty of if you’re going to binge-watch the series.
Have a girl’s night in
Warner Bros.
We know Luke’s Diner and Al’s Pancake World don’t exist in real life, but order all of the pancakes, burgers and junk food you can manage and have a blast with your BFFs.
Or cook for yourself and make a total mess in the kitchen like Sookie
Netflix
There’s even an official cookbook (Sookie’s Recipe Book) you can buy for some inspiration! Just don’t burn the place down, okay?
Or have a fancy dinner with your estranged parents
Netflix
Be sure to include plenty of martinis to get through any awkwardness.
Hold a dance-a-thon
Netflix
Bonus points if you’re the last one standing.
Or have a fall fashion extravaganza
Netflix
Blast “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper and model the fall looks you’ll most likely be wearing at home this season.
Fill your home with 1,000 daisies
Netflix
Take a book out of Max Medina’s (Scott Cohen) book and buy 1,000 yellow daisies. That said, Justice for Max! Max deserved better!
Or decorate like you’re going to travel the world
Netflix
Lorelai and Rory are nothing if not dedicated to a theme. So do as the Gilmores do, pick a country and decorate accordingly.
Do something semi-rebellious in honor of Lane Kim
Netflix
Like dyeing your hair or joining a band!
Divulge your greatest secret on C-SPAN
Netflix
Pull a Paris Geller (Liza Weil) and yell, “I had sex, but I’m not going to Harvard!”
You know she would be proud. She would be very embarrassed, but she would also be proud.
Have a picnic
It won’t top Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rory’s picnic on season 2’s “A-Tisket, A-Tasket,” but we are sure you’ll try your best.
Watch Kirk’s short film
Netflix
If you don’t have time to binge the whole series, turn to Kirk’s black-and-white short: A Film by Kirk.
Adopt a sweet, fluffy dog
Netflix
Also, name him after someone famous so that you can confuse the people around you.
Sing “I Will Always Love You” as your ex looks on longingly
Netflix
You can be a natural singer or a bundle of stage fright, but belting this karaoke classic will help you live out your superstar fantasies — even if you don’t quite sound like Whitney Houston, who covered the Dolly Parton original in 1992 for The Bodyguard soundtrack.
Buy some new books and get cozy
Netflix
The perfect Rory-approved way to celebrate!
Build your future significant other a car or a chuppah
Netflix
Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki) literally built a car for Rory, and Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) made a chuppah for Lorelai’s almost-wedding to Max. So, spending your free time on a massive project for your crush seems perfectly reasonable.
Shoot for the stars: Apply to Harvard, Princeton and Yale
Netflix
If you get into all three, you’ll have one more thing in common with Rory.
Tell off your frenemy in honor of Emily Gilmore
Netflix
Follow in Emily’s (Kelly Bishop) footsteps and put your frenemy in their place in the middle of a crowded Daughters of the American Revolution fundraiser. Or, in today’s world, you can always do it over Instagram Live or even start a feud on X.
Join a Secret Society
Netflix
We can’t tell you how to do this, you know, because it’s secret. In Omnia Paratus!
Spend some time with your mom or the mother figure in your life

You know it’s how Lorelai and Rory would be celebrating!
