LaKeith Stanfield Shares a Surprising Skill He Learned in His 20s for People’s One Last Thing (Exclusive)

LaKeith Stanfield has a few hidden talents up his sleeve.

Chatting with PEOPLE for One Last Thing, the actor, 34, who stars in the new Prime Video series, Play Dirty, alongside Mark Wahlberg, was asked about his most recent DIY project.

“I love working with my hands and molding things,” he explained. “For a while I even molded figurines out of clay and I would make little bowls and stuff. I had one of those [potter’s wheels] in my apartment when I was like 24, and it was the messiest, craziest thing, but I just was like, ‘I love this thing.'”

Stanfield was so enamored, he “put it in the center of my apartment,” he added. “I had clay everywhere. It was like you go into a meditative state when you’re creating those things. It just felt really good.”

Portraying Grofield in the new action-thriller heist movie produced by Robert Downey Jr., Stanfield shared more of his “lasts” with PEOPLE for next week’s issue:

Last guilty pleasure
Instagram. I’ll just be scrolling too much, like I should have spent that time doing something a little bit more useful. I look up, and a whole hour is gone. 

Last screenshot I took
It might’ve been my wife [model Kasmere Trice Stanfield]’s location [on his iPhone map]. Especially if she’s getting an Uber or something. I’m just making sure it makes it where it needs to go.

Last time I danced
I’ll do a little dance as part of my kids’ bedtime routine. There’s a series of songs created mostly by Mom, which tend to be like, “I love you, Mom loves you, we all love each other,” in different melodies. 

Last time I was starstruck
Probably when I met Sidney Poitier outside of Chateau Marmont. He’s such a bastion and the reason why I’m able to do things the way I do. I had so many questions and things I wanted to say, but it all came out as “Nice to meet you.”
