Barack and Michelle Obama are celebrating 33 years of marriage.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the former First couple shared posts to social media in celebration of their wedding anniversary.
“We’ve been on quite the journey over the last 33 years—and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said ‘I do,'” Michelle, 61, captioned her post, alongside a photo of herself and Barack smiling as they dressed up for a formal event. “Happy anniversary, @BarackObama! I’m so lucky to go through life with you. ❤️”
In his own post, the former president, 64, wrote: “The best decision I ever made was marrying you, @MichelleObama.”

The couple wed in 1992 and are parents to daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23.
In 2018, Michelle opened up about their wedding day on Instagram, writing that the former president was suffering from a “nasty head cold.”
“You can’t tell it from this photo, but Barack woke up on our wedding day in October, 1992 with a nasty head cold,” she wrote at the time. “Somehow, by the time I met him at the altar, it had miraculously disappeared and we ended up dancing almost all night.”
“… We’re still having fun, while also doing the hard work to build our partnership and support each other as individuals. I can’t imagine going on this wild ride with anybody else,” she added.

The Obamas have been candid about their relationship and how they share fun moments together. During an appearance on Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast in May, the former first lady spoke about one funny rule she asks both Barack and her brother, Craig Robinson, to follow.
“Both Barack and Craig will say that I don’t let them tease me,” Michelle shared. “See, we have a deal, Barack and I, in our marriage, and it started very early. It’s like, ‘I can tease you, but you cannot tease me.'”
“So when he does, I was like, ‘Oh, oh, oh, oh, wait a minute. What’s going on here?’ And he’s like, ‘I’m teasing you,’ ” the former first lady continued. “I was like, ‘None of that.'”

The couple previously dismissed rumors that they were having relationship problems after Michelle skipped President Donald Trump’s January inauguration.
During an appearance on The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett podcast in May, Michelle firmly shut down the whispers, saying that “everybody would know” if they “were having problems.”
“I’m not a martyr. I would be problem solving in public. ‘Let me tell you what he did,’ “ she said.

Michelle added that she felt very secure in her marriage. “The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was really ever gonna quit at it, ’cause that’s not who we are,” she said.
