The Bachelor’s Melissa Rycroft Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

The Bachelor alum Melissa Rycroft-Strickland was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence on Sept. 23 in Southlake, Texas.

Rycroft-Strickland, 42, was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on a Driving While Intoxicated charge. She was released on a $1,000 bond with a promise to appear in court on Sept. 24, according to Tarrant County arrest records.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Southlake Police Department for comment. TMZ was the first to report the news.

“I want to remind the public of the fundamental principle of our justice system…every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” Rycroft-Strickland’s lawyer, Bret Martin, said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We, as a society, have gotten completely away from this fundamental concept. My Client was arrested on the allegation of Driving While Intoxicated. An arrest is no indication of guilt.”

“It is imperative that we closely examine the circumstances of this case – including the conduct of law enforcement, the toxicology results, and the facts surrounding her arrest – before any conclusions are drawn,” Martin continued. “We respectfully request that the media and the public allow the legal process to unfold, and withhold any judgment whatsoever until all of the evidence has been properly analyzed and presented in a court of law.”

Rycroft-Strickland appeared on season 13 of The Bachelor, in which she was one of the women vying for Jason Mesnick’s heart. The reality star famously accepted a proposal from Mesnick, 49, only for him to break up with her on live TV in favor of pursuing a relationship with his now-wife Molly Mesnick, who was the runner-up.

The former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader later appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2009. She returned to the show in 2012, winning the series’ first all-star season.

Rycroft-Strickland is now a mom of three children, whom she shares with husband Tye Strickland. The couple tied the knot in 2009 and later starred in their own reality series, Melissa & Tye, in 2012. The show followed their long-distance relationship as they juggled raising their young children with Melissa’s burgeoning TV career.
