Julia Roberts is officially an empty nester.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the After the Hunt star, 57, opened up about how her three kids have all officially moved out of the house. When the topic was brought up at the start of the segment, she jokingly said, “I don’t know if sobbing now is the best jumping off point to our interview.”
After commiserating with Colbert, 61, about the sadness of her kids moving out of the house, Roberts shared that being an “empty nester” will never stop her from being close with her children, who she shares with husband Danny Moder.
“It’s all fun, honestly,” she said. “It’s also delicious. My kids — I know everyone thinks their kids are great, well… I think my kids are great.”
“I love hanging out with them and spending time with them,” Roberts continued. “Fortunately, we have had lots of visits along the way of this empty nest.”

Roberts and Moder, who have been married since 2002, are parents to 20-year-old twins Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter as well as son Henry Daniel, 18.
While Roberts has often been extremely private about her kids’ lives over the years, she and her husband have opened up about their love for being parents.
In May, Moder celebrated Roberts on Mother’s Day, sharing an Instagram post featuring photos of the actress and their three grown-up kids.
In the photo, Roberts sat in the middle between Henry, Hazel and Phinnaeus as they all looked at the camera with bright smiles. “Mothers make the coolest stuff,” Moder wrote in the caption. “Love these guys.”

In June, the Pretty Woman star also shared a rare throwback photo of her son Henry in honor of his 18th birthday. In the snap, a much younger Henry wears a green hoodie and looks directly into the camera. “In the blink of a joyful eye this beacon of a boy is ⚡️ 18 ⚡️ I love you Henry. #goldenboy #goldenbirthday,” Roberts wrote in her caption.
Just last month, Phinnaeus was seen impressively riding his skateboard in a video shared to Moder’s Instagram on Aug. 4. Wearing navy pants and Vans, Phinnaeus practiced riding his skateboard in a skatepark pool. “Who likes Butter?” Moder wrote in the caption.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in December 2023, Roberts also opened up about Henry being the only child left at home at the time after his two siblings headed off to college. “I think it’s a good 50/50 split. He’s loving it. And I think he misses his people,” Roberts said, noting that all three of her kids are doing “great.”
