Amy Duggar King has a story to tell.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, she will be going deeper than ever before with the release of her debut memoir, Holy Disruptor: Shattering the Shiny Facade While Getting Louder with the Truth. The book details her experience growing up amongst the famed Duggar family, and the many hardships she faced off-screen.
“I think the entire book will drop jaws. No one knows the things that I was struggling with,” she reveals.
The Arkansas native calls writing her new book “the most difficult thing” she’s “ever had to do.”
“I pushed myself to my limits,” she adds. “I cried all the time writing it, but I just wanted to be brave and tell the truth.”

“I wanted to stop myself so many times because I wanted to stop writing, and I didn’t want to believe in myself,” she explains. “I literally convinced myself halfway through, ‘No one’s going to read this. No one is going to pay attention to what I have to say. My voice is still small, and I’m not going to be enough for the people that are wanting to read this story.'”
“I felt so alone for so long, and that I was the only the person that was going through all this gaslighting and love-bombing and all of these major abusive tactics that narcissists used,” continues. “And then I was just like, ‘I could help someone else that feels alone.'”

Amy starred on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting series alongside her family. That show and its subsequent spinoff, Counting On, were canceled following the various scandals tied to Amy’s cousin, Josh Duggar.
Josh was arrested in 2022 and is set to remain in prison until 2032 after being convicted of receiving and possessing child pornography. (He has denied all wrongdoing and has attempted to overturn his conviction.)
“I feel like because the people that watch 19 Kids and Counting, one minute, we were on TV and everything was great, and next minute scandal, scandal, scandal, scandal. And it was just gone,” Amy says.

“I felt [the show] left with a lot of questions. They grew up with this family, and yet there’s no closure,” she concludes. “So, I hope this book brings closure as to why things kind of went the way they went for me. I hope it does connect the dots for those that did watch the show. And, I hope also that it feels like a hug for those that have experienced abuse in their lives.”
