Dad Shaves Off His Beard, Unprepared for His 3-Year-Old’s Reaction (Exclusive)

Pat Bolding wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he shaved off his beard for the first time in eight years. But his daughter certainly gave him an amazing reaction.

The dad shared a video on his TikTok on Sept. 14 and explained that he was going to shave for the first time in his 3-year-old daughter Shelby’s life.

“I haven’t seen my face in eight years. I hope this isn’t a mistake,” Bolding says. “Alright, here we go. Time to show the family.”

He debuts a newly fresh face that features a thick mustache but no beard. “Hi babe,” Bolding says to his daughter as she rounds the corner.

“I have to wash my foot,” his daughter says, trying to get to the bathroom. “You gotta wash your foot?” Bolding responds as his daughter takes a step back and puts a hand over her mouth. 

“How is…how did you cut your face?” Shelby asks. 

“What do you mean?” Bolding asks, prompting his daughter to scream and run away, going into the room next to them.

Now, Bolding tells PEOPLE that he knew his daughter would have a great reaction and was happy to see that she lived up to the expectation.

“I have had a beard for the last eight to nine years, my daughter is only 3 — almost 4 — so she has never seen me without it,” he says.

“I knew she would have some type of crazy reaction. I knew it would be funny and I was hoping it didn’t scare her and she would just freak out in a funny way!” Bolding continues. “Which is exactly what happened.”

“I’m so glad I recorded it because it was gold. Definitely created a hilarious core memory me and her will share for the rest of her life!” Bolding says. “When she’s an adult, I can be like, ‘Look at this. Remember when I shaved my beard off for the first time?'”
