David DeLuise, Wife Julia Share Experience with Taylor Swift at Selena Gomez’s Wedding

Wizards of Waverly Place star David DeLuise and his wife, Julia DeLuise, are spilling all the details of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco‘s wedding — including their experience with fellow guest Taylor Swift.

Two days after Gomez, 33, and Blanco, 37, tied the knot in California on Sept. 27, Julia shared photos with David, 53, from the wedding weekend on Instagram, writing, “Love is the word. 🫰🏼.” She then posted several videos on her Instagram Stories detailing the “celebration of love” and her “surreal” experiences at the nuptials, the “highlight” of which was talking to Swift, 35, who PEOPLE previously confirmed gave a speech at the wedding reception.

“The speeches, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift gave speeches, it was wonderful. Mainly Taylor,” Julia said.

Earlier in the evening, Swift approached Julia and David. The “Cruel Summer” singer even complimented Julia on her dress during their approximately 10-minute long conversation.

“She walked over while we were waiting for Selena to come to get married, and she knows Jennifer [Stone], so she came straight toward us,” Julia recalled. “When she walked in, all these other people were already there, but it was like the heavens opened up and an angel descended, and it was her. She walked in and she walked up to us and we talked.”

David — who starred as Gomez’s character Alex Russo’s father Jerry Russo in Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place for four seasons from 2007 to 2012 — added in another one of Julia’s Instagram Stories: “Being around Taylor, she’s just amazing. Like the energy that was popping off of her.”

Julia explained that details of Gomez and Blanco’s nuptials were kept “pretty secret for a long time” after she and David received their invitation. Eventually, they were told the exact date and given two hotel options to choose from.

“We knew we would be picked up at a certain time at one of those hotels, then go straight to the wedding,” she said, noting that Stone greeted them during check-in at The Ritz-Carlton.

She then said that the wedding venue, a “palm tree nursery” (she tagged Sea Crest Nursery in her post), was “gorgeous.”

“The effort they put, the wedding planners, the way they set this all up, I mean, that was insane,” she said.

She added that dancing at the wedding was “amazing” thanks to a “wonderful” live band.

“We danced so much, it was amazing. We danced like right next to Lizzo, and right next to all these other famous people,” she said, with David agreeing in another Instagram Stories snap, “The dancing was my favorite part.”

She regretted not bringing a tissue to the wedding because the ceremony was so emotional.

“As soon as Selena walked in, and she was walked down the aisle by her grandpa, I started crying,” Julia said.

David noted of the vows, “Everything that was said was so great. And when they opened the curtain for the first time in the day, the sun came out, and it was sunset behind her. It was as if they were like, ‘Don’t worry, cue the sun.’ I was crying, of course, the whole time.”

It was an unplugged ceremony as “people were not allowed to bring their phones into the wedding or to the party afterward.” According to Julia, “You would get there and they would take your phone and put it in like a little pouch, you would get a number, and would be able to pick it up later.”

“That was one of the things that made it so magical, this whole experience,” she continued. “Because you were not thinking about it.”
