Kristen Bell Regrets Not Being with More People Before Marrying Dax Shepard

Kristen Bell has been candid about her love for husband Dax Shepard — but the actress now says she has a few regrets about how she spent her time before they began dating.

On Monday, Sept. 29, episode of Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Bell, 45, opened up about wishing she’d dated around more before settling down with the 50-year-old Parenthood actor.

As guest Justine Lupe (who is also Bell’s Nobody Wants This costar) spoke about spending a lot of time dating and having a number of several-month-long relationships in her 20s, Shepard chimed in to say that Bell was “regretful” when it came to her early dating life.

“Kristen is a little regretful,” he said. “She was very active.”

“She was very sexually active and she wishes she was even more sexually active,” Shepard then joked.

“I just wish I butterflied around a little bit more,” Bell explained.

Co-Host Monica Padman stepped in to ask the Frozen actress to rate how sexually active she was in her 20s, with zero being “virgin and 10 is sex worker.”

“Four,” Bell shared. “And I just wish I maybe would have gone six.”

Bell and Shepard first met in 2007 and got engaged in 2009. They later wed in 2013, tying the knot at the Beverly Hills courthouse. They have since welcomed daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9.

The couple have been extremely candid in the past about their relationship and how they work together as a couple.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in 2023, Bell shared that she and her husband of almost 12 years have just one secret to a strong marriage.

“Common goals, seek them out. Our kids are a common goal, right?” she said. “People are like, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t be able to work with my husband or wife or partner.’ For me, I want another common goal with him. I respect him so much creatively. I have so much trust in him. Of course, I want him to be my director or my scene partner.”

Additionally, in February, Bell opened up to E! News about how she and her husband “root for each other” when they have an onscreen romance.

“When he got to make out with Minka Kelly on Parenthood, I was like, ‘Yes. Get it.’ We’re married, we’re not dead,” she joked.

The Good Place star also shared that a big part of their secret to a stable partnership is “foundational trust” and communication.

“Even if Dax hooks up with the most beautiful person in the world at work, I know he’s committed to our family. I know he’s coming home. I know he loves our children. I know he strives to be a great husband and father,” she said.

“We’re just human, right?” she continued, adding, “So maybe there could be a day where I’m like, ‘I’m actually really nervous that you spend time with that person.’ And he could say, ‘Oh, OK, let’s talk about it. What makes you nervous? What are you thinking?’ We have a very open communication.”
