Man Sparks Fight Buying Girlfriend Dyson Airwrap

NEED TO KNOW

  • A man on Reddit is seeking advice after he purchased her a Dyson Airwrap, which accidentally sparked a fight between them
  • Not knowing which version of the Airwrap to get her, he went to a female coworker for advice to make sure he got the right one
  • Now she’s mad he shared the details of the gift with a stranger instead of her friend, worried it makes her look bad

One man thought he was treating his girlfriend to a special surprise. Instead, he may have sparked the fight of the year.

In a post on Reddit’s Am I the A—— subreddit, the man explains that he and his girlfriend have been dating for three years. They both work at the same company and socialize frequently with coworkers.

When they started dating, both were at lower levels, but he has since climbed a few tiers in the workplace. With a recent pay raise, he wanted to treat his girlfriend to something special.

“She’s been dropping hints about an Airwrap,” he writes. “I earn good money, and this last week I’ve been doing higher-level duties at work and got a pay rise for the week, so I thought I would splurge.”

Here’s where things went sideways: all the Dyson Airwraps (which retail for around $750) looked the same to him. So, he asked one of his female coworkers for advice on which one to buy.

Then, the girlfriend found out.

“Now my gf is mad because it’s embarrassing having this other person know how much I’m spending,” he writes. “It gives the appearance that my gf is only dating me for my money (friends who have known we dated before hand know this to be false).” She also says she’s upset he went to someone else and not her best friend, who he says, “I get along with well enough but not super well.”

Since posting, the man’s Reddit has reached hundreds of people, many of whom have chimed in on the conversation.

“This is the most first world problem that has ever first worlded! So much drama,” one person comments.

“If your girlfriend is getting bent because someone knows what you bought her, I’d be reevaluating the relationship,” another person adds. “Creating drama instead of being grateful that you took the time and effort to get the correct item is concerning to me.”
