Child Saves Mom by Secretly Slipping Note to School Bus Driver in Iowa

A child in Iowa may have saved their mother’s life after passing a note to a school bus driver that read, “Call 911.”

The student passed the note to the driver just before 7:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Sept. 24, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), per News 13, ABC 6 and CBS 2. The driver alerted authorities, and police then went to a home in Westgate, a rural area of the county, to investigate, per News 13 and ABC 6.

Upon arriving at the home, police found that the child’s mother was allegedly being held against her will by 29-year-old Glenroy Miller of the Bahamas.

Miller is accused of having assaulted the woman several times throughout the night, kicking her with enough force to break two ribs and puncture her lung, per News 13.

Authorities also said the mother was unable to call for help in front of the suspect, so she wrote a note on a piece of paper and gave it to her child, per News 13 and CBS 2.

The child is currently in first grade, according to a legal complaint obtained by News 13.

Miller was arrested that morning, per Fayette County public arrest records.

He has been charged with armed kidnapping, willful injury, domestic abuse assault with the intent to inflict serious injuries and obstruction of emergency communications, according to public court records

Miller is currently being held on a $1,500 bond, public arrest records show. He is also being detained through Immigration and Customs Enforcement, per News 13 and CBS 2.
