A Michigan couple scored a financial touchdown after trying their luck at a Detroit Lions-themed scratch-off ticket game.
The Isabella County husband and wife, who chose to remain anonymous, recently won $500,000 playing that specific Michigan Lottery instant game.
The husband, 74, explained to the Michigan Lottery how they got lucky.
“I went to the store to buy a Powerball ticket, and my wife told me to get a few Detroit Lions tickets while I was there,” said the man, who bought his winning ticket at GCK Oil Inc. in Blanchard.
He continued, “I scratched the tickets the next morning and when I saw the $500,000 prize, I said to my wife, ‘Looks like we’re going to Lansing!’ ”

The newly minted winner recalled his wife’s stunned reaction.
“When I told her how much we’d won, she thought she was going to pass out,” he remembered. “We were both dumbfounded.”
The couple plans to spend their lottery prize by donating a portion, setting some money aside for their grandchildren and saving whatever is left.
