After teaming up for the track “77,” which was featured on Idol’s latest album Dream Into It, Lavigne, 39, joined the “Sweet Sixteen” artist, 69, to perform a thrilling rendition of the track.
In video footage shared on Instagram by the venue, Idol can be seen sporting an entirely black ensemble featuring a leather vest with chains while passionately singing in tandem with Lavigne, who appears in a black, shearling maxi coat, an oversized T-shirt, black tights and boots.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the “Girlfriend” performer reflected on working with “Hot in the City” artist and called him a “true legend.” She also noted she has a collaboration with Bon Jovi on their forthcoming record Forever (Legendary Edition) due Oct. 24.
“It’s incredible to collaborate with legends across the rock genre. As I continue to work on what’s next, I definitely look forward to branching out with different people,” says Lavigne.
According to a press release, in honor of her upcoming birthday, Idol also surprised Lavigne with a cake backstage.

Lavigne previously covered her 1980 classic “Bad Reputation” on The Best Damn Tour and then recorded it as a bonus track for her 2011 album Goodbye Lullaby.
Earlier this month, Lavigne exclusively announced her first official wine, “Banshee Complicated” with Banshee Wines, with PEOPLE.
The $30 limited-edition, small-batch pinot noir — named after her 2002 breakout single “Complicated” — is light and layered with bright notes of cherry and raspberry.
According to Lavigne, a two-year collaboration with Banshee, beginning with her Greatest Hits Tour, led to this moment since “the Banshee bar became a staple backstage and at my afterparties.”
“Our partnership is so natural, and as my love for wine has grown over the years, I knew they were the brand I wanted to collaborate with to launch my first official wine,” she told PEOPLE.
