A drastic haircut has caused one man’s girlfriend to become short-tempered over her short hair.

In a post to Reddit’s AITA [Am I the A——] discussion forum, a 26-year-old man explained that he’s in the hot seat with his 25-year-old girlfriend after she grew her hair out for charity and expected him to foot the bill for a makeover after.

According to the poster, his girlfriend “has been growing her hair out for years” before she “chopped off over 12 inches and donated it to a charity that makes wigs for kids with cancer.”

“She always said she wanted to donate it, and I thought that was a great idea. I even told her it was really sweet of her to do that,” he wrote.

However, things changed once she did her big chop.

“She says she feels ugly, she misses her long hair, and she’s been super upset about it,” the Redditor wrote.

In an attempt to solve the problem, his girlfriend booked a salon visit for services like “layers, color, [and] extensions” and “then she sent me the bill—over $500—expecting me to cover it.”

She seemingly saw no issue with the ask as the boyfriend was the one who “encouraged her to do it,” he wrote.

“I told her that while I think what she did was amazing, I never told her to donate her hair. That was her decision, and I don’t think it’s fair to expect me to pay for her to ‘fix’ it now. She got really upset and said I was being unsupportive and selfish, and now she’s barely speaking to me,” he concluded, asking if he was indeed the a—— in the situation.

Nearly all of the responses sided with the Redditor.

“NTA [Not the a——]. She wants you to be financially accountable for a decision she made? No,” one commenter wrote. Another person replied, “She’s an adult. She made a decision. She should know the consequences of her decision fall on her. Do NOT pay for these hair extensions. NTA.”

As people weighed in, another person referred to her behavior as “highly manipulative,” while some warned the poster to think twice about committing to that relationship long-term.
