White House Omits Biden from New ‘Presidential Walk of Fame’ Outside the West Wing

NEED TO KNOW

  • Donald Trump left the portrait of his predecessor, Joe Biden, out of a new White House installation, continuing his years-long grudge with the former president
  • In the new “Presidential Walk of Fame” along the West Wing Colonnade, where Biden’s portrait should hang, is instead a photo of an autopen device
  • Trump has repeatedly accused Biden staffers of misusing an autopen to sign executive orders without their boss’s awareness

President Donald Trump continued to take aim at his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, with a new installation at the White House.

On X on Wednesday, White House communications adviser Margo Martin showed a video of the new “Presidential Walk of Fame” on the West Wing Colonnade. The walkway is lined with portraits of past presidents in the order of their election.

However, amid the final portraits of George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Trump himself, Biden isn’t shown. In his place, there is a photo of an autopen — a tool that U.S. presidents have openly relied on to reproduce their signatures. Trump has accused Biden’s administration of using an autopen to sign executive orders without his knowledge.

The Walk of Fame serves as a real-life version of the meme Trump shared back in January, when he posted a picture of an autopen signature framed between his two presidential portraits with the dates “2021-2025,” instead of Biden’s portrait.

Trump’s fixation on the Biden administration’s alleged misuse of the autopen has been a talking point for months. In June, Biden, 82, denied that autopen signatures were responsible for the multitude of pardons and commutations that he signed during the final days of his presidency.

“I made every single one of those,” he told The New York Times, adding of his critics, “They know it.”

Repeated denials have not stopped Trump from bringing up the Biden autopen. He even went on a lengthy rant about the controversy during a joint press conference with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his state visit to England last week.

“Joe Biden wasn’t giving those orders,” Trump claimed. “The autopen was illegal. It was illegally used. He never gave the orders. He never told them what to do. And I guess the only one he signed, or one of the few he signed, was the pardon for his son.”

“You talk about freedom of the press and freedom of speech, how about that one?” he continued. “Those people are so guilty… I know them all and they’re sick people. They’re smart people. They’re very smart. They’re probably brilliant, but they’re sick in ideology and they were running the autopen. And it was totally illegal, what he did, and I hope it’s going to be so adjudged.”

Before even taking office for his second term, Trump was using the autopen theory to try and discredit the validity of Biden’s final pardons, which included his son, Hunter, as well as COVID-19 response lead Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark A. Milley, and members of the bipartisan House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

“The ‘Pardons’ that Sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Unselect Committee of Political Thugs, and many others, are hereby declared VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT, because of the fact that they were done by Autopen,” Trump posted on Truth Social in the early morning hours of Monday, March 17.
