Some of the biggest names in rock are joining forces — but for what exactly is not yet clear.

Sammy Hagar has seemingly gathered a selection of rock legends for yet another supergroup, and this time around, the lineup has something for dad rock enthusiasts of every decade. In an Instagram post shared Monday, Sept. 22, the former Van Halen frontman, 77, posed alongside some of the rockers — and teased that the group is “just getting started.”

In the clip, Hagar posed alongside Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, the trio wrapping their arms around each other as the Red Rocker shared a cryptic message about their apparent collaboration.

“Okay, here we are. The three best singers in rock and roll,” joked Hagar, leading Kroeger, 50, to hang his head in a fit of laughter.

“And you say, ‘What are those three guys doing?’ Well, it’s hard to say,” teased Hagar. “We’re just getting started. We’ll figure that out.”

In the caption of the video, the Van Halen alum wrote: “#WTF #chadkroeger @nickelback #tommylee  @motleycrue #???” And another rocker, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong added his stamp of approval in the comments, writing, “Legends.”

Lee, who is currently in the middle of a Las Vegas residency with Mötley Crüe, didn’t say anything in the video, instead holding up a small bouquet of flowers to the camera as Hagar, who is also in the midst of a Vegas residency, shared his message with viewers.

The Mötley Crüe drummer, 62, also remained tight-lipped on his own Instagram, opting not to share anything about his apparent collaboration with the two rockers. But another musician did.

Charlie Benante also appears to be in the mix, according to a post the Anthrax and Pantera drummer, 62, shared on Instagram.

Also on Sept. 22, Benante shared a group photo with Hagar and Kroeger — and seemingly revealed that the supergroup’s first order of business will be a single.

“When you get a call to come over and play drums on a song that these 2 are doing… you drop whatever it is and go,” the Anthrax drummer wrote. “What a spontaneous thing and so much fun. Thank you both #chadkroeger @sammyhagar @nickelback.”

While Hagar has had quite the career as a solo act and with bands, including Van Halen, he’s also helped to assemble several supergroups over the years.

In the ‘80s, the singer released album Through the Fire with supergroup Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve (a.k.a HSAS), which featured the talents of Journey’s Neal Schon, bassist Kenny Aaronson and Santana drummer Michael Shrieve.

More recently, he formed his semi-eponymous supergroup, Sammy Hagar and the Circle, made up of Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer, guitarist Vic Johnson and Jason Bonham, the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. The group has released three studio albums, the most recent being 2022’s Crazy Times.
