When Jennifer Aniston is feeling down, she has some surefire ways of getting out out of a slump.
The Morning Show star, 56, shared her go-to methods for feeling better with PEOPLE. The author of the new children’s cookbook, Cook with Clydeo, said that the easiest way to lift her spirits is simple: seeing her girlfriends.
“I have a really wonderful, loving, solid group of friends who are very funny on top of being wonderful human beings. And so, we make each other laugh,” the Emmy-Award winning actress answered.
“Honestly, having a group of friends over is always an instant pick-me-up,” she said, adding that if she’s not home “making some sort of comfort food like pizza nights, burgers or Mexican food,” going out can do the trick, too. “I’ll go to my favorite restaurant with some girlfriends, have a martini, and some delicious meal.”
When asked who her favorite person to call, she specifically shouted out Friends castmates Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, Jason Bateman’s wife Amanda Anka, Andrea Bendewald, Jennifer Meyer and others as some of the girlfriends she feels “very lucky” to have.
“You’ll find one of them. And if you don’t, someone will eventually call you back,” Aniston explained with a laugh.
The star explained that she will turn on a documentary and “turn off the news, that’s for sure” for a boost.
Of course, her rescue pups, Clyde (the inspiration for her new book’s character Clydeo) and Lord Chesterfield, lift her up.
“Those are my babes,” the LolaVie haircare brand founder said. “There is no question, they are spoiled.”
Lately, one heartwarming thing in Aniston’s life has been receiving photos of her friends’ families recreating banana pancakes from Cook with Clydeo.
“I’ve gotten many, many reports and photographs of Jimmy and Molly’s kids making the pancakes,” she said of Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney’s daughter Jane, 11, and son Billy, 8. “A bunch of friends of mine have sent me pictures of their children with their mitts and making the recipes, which is so adorable.”

While the breakfast recipe is “one of the hits of the book,” Aniston’s “personal favorite” dish is a savory snack.
“It’s guilt-free, because they’re just little bites. You can stretch it into two bites, but definitely, definitely yummy, yummy, yummy,” she said of the cheesy recipe.
Cook with Clydeo, which was released on Sept. 9, includes 35 recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, most of which come from the perspective of Clydeo, an animated pup who first appeared on Aniston’s Instagram in 2021.
Aniston released her debut children’s book, Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life, with illustrations by Bruno Jacob, in October 2024 as the first in a four-book deal between the actress, HarperCollins and Invisible Universe.
Per HarperCollins, the children’s cookbook will be followed by Clydeo Versus Peanut Butter later this year and Clydeo Makes a Friend in winter 2026.
