A college student’s post about his “roommate from hell” has gone viral after a food fight between the pair landed her in the emergency room.
In a Reddit thread shared to “Am I the A——?”, the student explained that his roommate, a 19-year-old woman, regularly eats his meals despite repeated boundaries. “My mom specifically bought me a small car fridge so I could keep food in there without anyone taking it,” he wrote, noting that the fridge even locks, but claims that she’d pick it to get to the food.
Still, he continued, “My roommate, being the roommate of hell, has gone as far as picking the lock to eat my food.” Her response? She tells him that she believed “it was for both of us,” even though he’s told her multiple times that the food he brought with his money belongs to him only.

After countless instances of his dishes disappearing, the original poster (or OP) said he meal-prepped pad thai for himself — drizzling peanut oil and topping it with chopped peanuts. He insisted he didn’t make her a portion this time, and didn’t know she had a peanut allergy.
“Later, I found out that she had an allergic reaction and had to go to the ER,” he shared. “Now she has been yelling at me for putting peanuts in my food, something I would eat.”
According to OP, his roommate sent “50 angry messages” throughout the day, accusing him of endangering her and calling him a “monster” to her friends, who also began messaging him.
The poster then added in an edit that notes his resident assistant is now involved, and that the university plans to move him into a new room within a week. “Until then, I will be cooking with peanuts all the time and labeling everything I make as ‘Has peanuts,’” he wrote.

The student also admitted some satisfaction after the ordeal, saying his roommate’s hives and rash made her “look like a cartoon character” or “like a witch.”
“For the remaining one week we have together, it’s gonna be fun,” wrote OP. “I am no longer cooking meals for her and putting peanuts in everything. also labeling just in case.”
Though all of the comments deemed the poster NTA, or “Not the A——?”, many of the Redditors who offered advice went on to encourage OP that he did nothing wrong since she didn’t announce her allergy and was not given the food willingly.
“You weren’t trying to poison her. You were cooking for yourself,” wrote one commenter. “Some people have serious enough peanut allergies that they can literally pass out from smelling them. This was a ticking time bomb, and she easily could have just passed out in a locked form room.”
