Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s daughter is celebrating her sweet 16!

On Friday, Sept. 19, the actress and proud mom, 48, shared a series of photos on her Instagram as she honored her daughter Charlotte on her 16th birthday. In the carousel, Gellar included photos of her daughter as a baby, as well as snaps of the black Jeep she’d gifted her for the big day.

“16 years ago today, you made me a mom. I believe the quote is … a daughter is just a little girl who grows up to be your best friend,” she wrote in her caption. “Charlotte, you are that and so much more.”

“You are strong, you are inspiring, you are kind, you are funny (almost as funny as me 😉) and most importantly you are one of a kind, the best kind. Im so lucky to call you my best friend. And I’m equally excited to finally be your passenger PRINZEss ❤️.”

Gellar shares her daughter and son Rocky, 12, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr.

In July, Prinze Jr. spoke with PEOPLE and shared that it’s been a “tough battle” as his two kids enter teenagehood.

“You get a little unbalanced because a lot of kids’ friends are on vacation, or they go to camp at someplace else, or they’re busy with camp locally, so you are more present,” he told PEOPLE of summer parenting.

“They’re not running away from you as much. Like, ‘Dad, can you take me here? Can you take me there? Can I see this guy? Can I see that girl?’ We try to keep our kids pretty active. You’re definitely more necessary, and you might feel like a chauffeur, and that’s a normal feeling for a parent to go through, but you’re definitely more necessary in the summer.”

At the time, Prinze Jr. said that the key to it all is patience, which he says is his wife’s parenting superpower

“The practicing of patience in the face of teenage power is a tough battle. It’s like All Might versus whatever horrible villain he was facing in My Hero Academia, that level of difficulty,” Prinze Jr. said, referring to the popular anime series. “Patience, I think, is the ultimate power, and if you don’t have it, it’s a muscle you have to work out. So, definitely put the time in because it will help you win all the arguments.”

Back in March, Gellar spoke with Glamour and shared that while her kids don’t like to watch her work, they are fans of one of her movies.

“I mean, my kids find it pretty cringe,” Gellar admitted of her work. “I think they think they have better things to do than watch me on something, but they’ll watch my friends on stuff. Although my kids love I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

While they won’t be watching their mom in the upcoming sequel — spoiler alert: her character died — Gellar said her kids are excited to see Prinze Jr. in the movie.

“We went as a family to Australia to watch them film, and we had a great time,” she says. “It helps when your best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is also the director.”
