Epic Universe Guest Dies After Becoming Unresponsive on Roller Coaster

A man has died after riding a roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe in Florida.

A Universal spokesperson tells PEOPLE that the incident occurred on Wednesday, Sept. 17, on the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal’s Epic Universe.

The man was unresponsive after the ride and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he later died, the spokesperson added.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a statement obtained by PEOPLE as a man in his 30s.

“It’s very early in the investigation and we have no further information for release at this time,” they added.

“We are devastated by this tragic event and extend our sincerest sympathies to the guest’s loved ones,” the Universal spokesperson added. “We are fully cooperating with Orange County and the ongoing investigation. The attraction remains closed.”

It is unclear at this time when the ride will reopen.

Epic Universe opened in May 2025 and is Universal’s newest theme park.

Stardust Racers is located in the Celestial Park portion of the park and goes up to 62 mph, according to Universal Orlando Resorts’ website, which compares the attraction to “riding a shooting star across the cosmos.”

The roller coaster reaches “heights up to 133 feet” and has about “5,000 feet of track,” the website said.
