President Donald Trump put the spotlight on Kate Middleton during his remarks at the state banquet at Windsor Castle on Sept. 17.

The U.S. president, 79, singled out the Princess of Wales, 43, in his remarks, praising her as “radiant,” “healthy” and “so beautiful” as she sat to his right.

“Melania and I are delighted to visit with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness, Princess Catherine. So radiant, so healthy and so beautiful,” Trump said in his speech, turning to look at the Princess of Wales seated to his right.

Kate looked up at Trump in that moment and smiled graciously in response.

Trump continued, “It’s really a great honor. Thank you.”

The president’s comments come after a difficult year for Princess Kate, who announced in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

She reduced her royal duties to focus on her health and shared a few updates in the months that followed.

In September 2024, the Princess of Wales announced that she had completed chemotherapy treatment and in January of this year, shared that she is in remission.

Over the summer, Kate spoke with candor about the challenges of navigating a “new normal” in the “roller coaster” phase after cancer treatment.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” she said while visiting Colchester Hospital in July.

“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” the Princess of Wales continued. “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

“You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times,” she said.

King Charles continues to undergo treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, which Buckingham Palace announced in February 2024.
