Malik Nabers takes blame for OT interception in Giants’ loss

This was what the Giants hoped would happen when Malik Nabers got around Russell Wilson.

It took one regular-season game for that connection to really start cooking, and when it did it was something to behold.

Nabers last Sunday caught touchdown passes of 29 and 48 yards, and ended up with nine receptions for 167 yards. It was not enough to produce a victory, though, as the Cowboys beat the Giants 40-37 in overtime.

The last gasp for the Giants came when Wilson’s 41st and final pass of the game was a deep shot intended for Nabers.

The ball did not come close to finding the target and was intercepted by safety Donovan Wilson.

Afterward, Russell Wilson said there was miscommunication on the play.

Three days later, Nabers at first said, “I mean, I don’t put it on myself personally. We all play a role.’’ Then, he quickly pivoted.

“Yeah, actually, I will take it,’’ Nabers added. “That’s my fault. I should have been in more communication with Russ to know what we were trying to do. I was locked in on trying to figure out how the defense was playing me at the time, and I wasn’t really looking at the right time for him to give me what he gave me to try to change the run-up. That’s 100 percent my fault.’’

Nose tackle Dexter Lawrence II has not played up to his usual high standards in the first two games.

He vows Game 3 will be different.

“I know I’ve got to be at my best, and I will be at my best Sunday night, and I’ll be ready,’’ Lawrence said of the upcoming battle with the Chiefs.

There is an uneven rotation going on at one of the starting cornerback spots. Cor’Dale Flott gets the majority of the snaps and Deonte Banks plays mostly on third down.

In Week 2, Flott played 59 snaps and Banks’ workload increased from the season opener, as he was on the field for 33 snaps.

“I thought he did some good things,’’ head coach Brian Daboll said of Banks. “I think Flott’s playing good. We’ll just do what we think we need to do for each game. “It just depends on what we want to do for that particular week. But I think they’ve both earned playing time with some of the things they’ve done, and they’ll both need to help us.’’
