NY Democrats’ rush to bend the knee to Mamdani means Albany WILL enact his socialist agenda

Like dominoes, New York Democrats are falling in line behind Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral bid — raising the odds that they won’t check his disastrous agenda, but enable it.

Crucially, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie just bent the knee, expressing his enthusiasm for Mamdani’s drive to hike city taxes because “millionaire taxes poll extremely well.”

“I would say that probably 80% of the stuff that Zohran has campaigned on, the Assembly Democrats have supported,” Heastie confessed to reporters after Mamdani’s upset primary victory.

And now they’ll push for it all the harder. How hard will Gov. Kathy Hochul push back, given her record of compromise with even the Legislature’s worst ideas — and her own Mamdani endorsement?

By all accounts, she jumped aboard the Zohran train because she needs to rack up a huge majority in New York City next November, so how can she dare block his agenda when Albany’s legislative session wraps up by June?

Notice that Mamdani has pointedly declined to endorse her back; he can even still get behind a left-wing primary challenge to the gov, should she refuse him his tax hikes.

And he’s inspired other progressive lawmakers to chase big dreams: Some are already talking about reviving the Wall-Street-killing idea of a stock-transfer tax.

If Albany believes that socialism is now a huge seller, expect state government to embrace even bigger spending increases than the huge runups of the last five years.

Heastie, Hochul & Co. seem set to kill Gotham’s golden goose and ensure that even more New Yorkers are Florida-bound.

Some New York Democrats may still keep their distance from the socialist antisemite: House and Senate Minority Leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, who know a Mayor Mamdani will be a huge gift to Republicans in every swing district across America in 2026, plus state Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs and Long Island Reps. Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen, who recognize how toxic he’ll be for Democrats in Nassau and Suffolk.

Then again, Mamdani’s Democratic Socialists will likely be targeting all of them soon enough, or at least their most vulnerable allies within the Democratic Party.

Any Democrat who cares more about New York, city and state, than about their personal political needs would be standing up against the Mamdani agenda right now.

Those who are instead embracing him are telling non-lefty voters everything they should need to know.
