Ned and Ariel Fulmer are sharing where they stand as a couple, three years after Ned admitted to an extramarital affair with an employee of his production company.

On the first episode of Ned’s new podcast Rock Bottom, released on Sept. 17, the pair sat down for their first public conversation after the cheating scandal in 2022. Following the allegations, the couple left the public eye, and Fulmer exited The Try Guys, the YouTube channel and production company he co-founded after it started as a Buzzfeed series in 2014.

“People ask me, ‘Do you forgive Ned for what he did,’ ” Ariel said in the episode. “And the answer is no. Absolutely not. How can you forgive somebody for lying to you. For cheating on you. No. F— no.”

In the episode, Ned also shared the details of their marriage, confirming that the pair have been separated ever since the cheating allegations came to light.

“We are still friends, we have children together, we go on trips together,” Ned revealed. “There is a spectrum of being together-not together. There’s ways in which we’re together, but the way that everyone wants to know, like, ‘Are you still, like, and item? Are you still a couple?’ No.”

“We really haven’t been at all these last three years,” he continued. “There’s moments that we’ve kind of tried. But just because you go to a Taylor Swift concert together doesn’t mean that all is forgiven.”

A spokesperson for Ned previously confirmed to PEOPLE that the pair were separated.

“I feel like forgiveness isn’t the goal at this point,” Ariel continued on the episode. “We’ve been together for a long time, and you are the father of my two beautiful children, and we know each other really well. We’ve worked through a lot of stuff, and the fact that I can be around you and still have a good time and enjoy spending time with you and enjoy spending time with my kids — I think that’s a win.”

“It’s taken a lot of hard work to do that,” Ned responded to his estranged wife. “As we’ve adjusted, we’ve recalibrated our relationship towards more of a platonic friendship. And as much progress as we’ve had, you’re still very angry.”

“Of course I’m still angry,” Arield said. “We lost a lot.”

Earlier this week, Ned sat down with PEOPLE for a wide-ranging and candid conversation about the cheating scandal that torpedoed his career, his decision to step away from social media and content creation, and his return three years later.

“For a long time, I wanted nothing to do with social media or the internet,” said Ned of the immediate aftermath following the cheating scandal. “I didn’t think it was particularly beneficial to my mental health.”

The pair used their time off camera to repair their relationship, coming clean to his wife about his infidelity, starting couples therapy and building a new “foundation of trust,” he told PEOPLE. “We have a much clearer sense of boundaries — understanding and respecting each other’s boundaries — as well as integrity and being direct with each other, even when it might be unpleasant.”

As he regained stability in his family life, Ned said, he was itching to pick up the camera again.

“I started to want to create and miss making things,” the internet personality said. “I mean, I’m the type of person that’d be in a community theater show getting paid nothing. I just love it.”

His new venture, a podcast titled Rock Bottom, is an interview series with other people about their lowest moments — “anyone who’s overcome something challenging,” he described to PEOPLE.

“It’s made me a lot more interested in other people’s challenging times,” said Ned of the cheating scandal. “When someone does something that they’re really ashamed about or that is deeply traumatizing, life goes on. So what happens next?”

Still, Ned admitted that, by reintroducing himself to the internet, he was going to have to change how he presented himself — namely, dropping what he said was the “one-dimensional” persona he adopted online.

“It’s pretty well known that I was presenting myself as a wife guy who talked about his adorable relationship,” said Ned. “It was something fans seemed to resonate with and I leaned into consciously. It certainly was a part of my life.”

“I understand that that’s why it was such a big scandal — because it’s ironic and it feels like a rug pull to people,” Fulmer added. “That must have been really painful and devastating to the viewers.”
