LaVar Ball shows off prosthetic leg in new videos

LaVar Ball appears to be in good spirits now that he has a prosthetic leg about seven months after he had part of his right leg amputated.

Ball showed off the prosthetic in a pair of videos posted to the Big Baller Brand Instagram page on Tuesday, one of which featured him standing and strutting in front of a Rolls-Royce.

“Big Baller’s back, baby! Yes indeed,” Ball said.

In the second video, the father of basketball players Lonzo, LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball appears to be leaving a clinic where he received the prosthetic.

“I didn’t think I was gonna be moving this fast,” he says before getting into the passenger seat of an SUV.

The 57-year-old initially had some toes amputated, then his foot, due to a diabetes-related infection before eventually needing further amputation around the knee. He also needed blood transfusions.

“All those surgeries and blood transfusions, it made me question whether it was worth going through it sometimes,” Ball wrote in an essay for SLAM in March. “It made me think, ‘Man, just kill me and let me go about my business.’ It made me think that maybe it’s time for me to shut it down.”

He credits his sons’ support for getting him through the harrowing ordeal.

“I’m the Big Baller. I’m hard to kill. But I must admit that my boys kept me rolling,” Ball wrote in SLAM. “Cause a couple of times, I was like, ‘I can’t do no more blood transfusions. I can’t do no more operations. I’m just ready to shut it down. It’s enough for me.’ But I’m here for a bigger purpose.”

While LiAngelo didn’t make it in the NBA, he made waves earlier this year with the rap hit “Tweaker,” which was blowing up around the time LaVar was going through the surgeries.

Lonzo, 27, missed two full seasons due to injuries but played in 35 games with the Bulls last season, averaging 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He was traded to the Cavaliers in July.

LaMelo, 24, has also dealt with injury problems but averaged a career-high 25.2 points per game last season for the Hornets with 7.4 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 47 games.
