Woman Questions Relationship After Boyfriend Tells Her Plans of His Upcoming Tattoo

NEED TO KNOW

  • A Reddit user took to the social media platform to ask if she was overreacting to her boyfriend wanting to get a tattoo of a female professional wrestler
  • The boyfriend once referred to the wrestling star as a “hall pass” for their relationship
  • Commenters weighed in, agreeing with the Redditor’s concerns

A woman was left with a tough decision on how to handle her relationship with her boyfriend, who expressed a desire to get a female professional wrestler’s likeness tattooed on his body.

The woman took to Reddit for advice from users in the “AmIOverreacting” subreddit and received an overwhelming amount of support — and nuanced responses — in the comments section.

“My [28F] boyfriend [26M] wants a tattoo of Stephanie Vaquer,” the woman asked in the post. “He wants her likeness and an opening for her to sign his arm so he can get it tattooed. Is it reasonable for me to have objections?”

The poster continued, “He tells me it’s just a representation of his interest in wrestling. That is, he’s getting a tattoo of his favorite wrestler. But we both know he finds her attractive, and he’s mentioned her being a ‘hall pass.’ Is it ok for me to feel weird about this?”

A “hall pass,” for people in relationships, is a person outside the relationship that they’d be allowed to hook up with without repercussion.

One user, who received the top comment under the post with 189 Upvotes, noted that they would feel embarrassed for any friend of theirs who had a tattoo of a wrestler.

“I’d feel embarrassed for him if I had a buddy with a girlfriend or wife that got such a tattoo. Likely even if he didn’t have a partner,” the user wrote. “If he already has other wrestlers tattooed on his body, then I guess it’s a theme and his thing.”

The user added that the original poster is “allowed to decide” if they “wouldn’t date a guy with such a tattoo,” but cautioned the woman not to give her boyfriend “an ultimatum” and instead “communicate that it’ll make you uncomfortable. Then if he does it anyway, just leave him.”

Another user had much stronger words for the original poster and said that the boyfriend’s tattoo choice is “cringe,” “creepy” and “inappropriate.” The person added, “Does he think Stephanie will like it if she sees it and think, ‘yes! I’ll take that hall pass from you, thank you very much young man!’ Doubtful.”

The commenter also suggested that the Redditor should get the name of her hall pass “tattooed onto your lower back, just to represent your interest in shagging another man if the chance comes up.”

A third Reddit user simply stated, “If he has an attraction to her, he shouldn’t be getting any tattoo that reminds anyone of her, especially if he said she’d be a ‘hall pass’. Weird bf. Might as well drop him for that.”

Another person simply warned her to “be careful with manchildren.”
