Why Mel B ‘didn’t expect’ Spice Girls Emma Bunton, Mel C at her wedding
Mel B “didn’t expect” two of her fellow Spice Girls to say they’ll be there at her recent weddings.
The singer, 50, aka “Scary Spice,” told The Post that her husband was in charge of the attendee list, and while all members of the iconic girl group were invited, she was unaware that “Baby Spice” Emma Bunton and “Sporty Spice” Mel C were attending the ceremonies until she saw them on her special day.
Mel B married hairdresser Rory McPhee, 37, in a private ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on July 5. The newlyweds then tied the knot a second time in Morocco at Selman Marrakech on August 3.
Bunton, 49, attended the star-studded London nuptials, which were followed by an elegant bash at The Shard’s Shangri-La Hotel, while Mel C, 51, was there to witness their second wedding in Morocco.
“I didn’t expect any of them to come, to be honest, because it was a very intimate, private thing, and I know everybody’s busy,” Mel B exclusively told The Post about her Spice Girls bandmates.
The “Wannabe” singer shared that “Posh Spice” Victoria Beckham, 51, “was busy and she sent me lots of gifts,” and “Ginger Spice” Geri Halliwell-Horner, 53, was “off with Formula 1.”
Halliwell-Horner was seen at the F1 British Grand Prix on July 6. Her husband, Christian Horner, was the longest-running Red Bull team principal until he was fired from his position on July 9, over a year after being cleared of inappropriate behavior accusations.
“Everyone’s doing their own thing,” Mel B said about the members of the ’90s pop group.
“They all sent me well-wishes and we had lovely FaceTimes, but I didn’t expect any of them to turn up. So when they [Emma and Mel C] were there, I was like, ‘Oh, wow!’” she shared.
When asked to clarify that she didn’t know her longtime bandmates were coming until she saw them at her weddings, Mel B explained, “I didn’t want to get bombarded with the wedding guest list,” so she put her husband-to-be in charge.
“I was like, ‘Rory, my ADHD is on fire. I’m still sorting out my dress. You deal with that [guest list]. Here’s my list of who I want to come. Figure it out,” she added.
Mel B and McPhee were dating for three years before they got engaged in October 2022.
The “Spice Up Your Life” hitmaker previously revealed how McPhee helped her through the aftermath of her divorce from her second husband, Stephen Belafonte, whom she was married to from 2007 to 2017.
The pair were friends for years before their relationship turned romantic, and he was there when her father, Martin Brown, passed away from cancer in 2017 at age 63.
She wrote in the expanded version of her 2018 memoir, “Brutally Honest,” that the fact McPhee knew her dad provided another level of “built-in safety and trust and respect.”
Mel B told The Post her father was the reason behind their second wedding in Morocco.
“That was the last place that I had a holiday with my dad before he died,” she revealed. “It’s a very special place to me.”
Mel B has been promoting Apple TV+’s “KPOPPED.” She and Bunton represented the Spice Girls in the streaming service’s newest singing competition series, which pairs two Western artists with South Korean idols to perform K-pop versions of their hits and perform in front of a live studio audience in Seoul.
The crowd then votes which artist wins the competition, but Mel B and Bunton’s episode was different because they stayed together instead of battling each other.
“We didn’t want to split,” Mel B told The Post. She noted the cherry on top was that they “got to sing more than just one song.”
They performed remixed versions of the Spice Girls’ 1996 classics “Wannabe” and “Say You’ll Be There” with K-pop girl group ITZY.
Mel B and Bunton appear in episode two of “KPOPPED,” with superstars like Patti LaBelle, Boy George, Boyz II Men, Kylie Minogue, Taylor Dayne, Vanilla Ice, J Balvin, Eve and Megan Thee Stallion are also featured on the competition series.
“KPOPPED” is now available to stream on Apple TV+.
