What sparked ’emotional’ meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles
Prince Harry extended an olive branch to King Charles III to “spark” their recent reunion after more than a year of estrangement.
The Duke of Sussex “wrote a handwritten letter … earlier this year expressing his desire to reconnect,” Us Weekly reported over the weekend.
“They were not sure it was going to happen until just in the last week,” the outlet claimed on Sunday, calling the meeting “super positive and very relaxed.”
“They were catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health,” the source said in reference to the monarch’s cancer battle.
There were reportedly “hugs and tears,” and the “mood was genuine and positive.”
The insider added, “They shared a long hug when they first saw each other. Harry started crying and it was very emotional for both of them. They really missed each other.”
Page Six confirmed last week that Harry, 41, met his dad, 76, on Wednesday for a “private tea.”
The meetup took place at His Majesty’s London home, Clarence House, at around 5:20 p.m. and lasted nearly an hour.
“It was chosen because it was an intimate, less formal atmosphere compared to Buckingham Palace,” Us Weekly reported on Sunday. “They wanted an intimate setting to ease back into their personal connection without any pressure.”
The duo had not seen each other in person since February 2024, shortly after Charles’ cancer diagnosis made headlines.
After meeting with Charles on Wednesday, Harry attended an Invictus Games event — and gushed that his dad was “doing great.”
Reps for Charles and Harry did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
The prince arrived in England last week, with Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, celebrating his return on Sunday via her As Ever brand’s Instagram Story.
“When your beau is back in town,” the “Suits” alum, 44, captioned a picture of herself pouring drinks over the weekend.
She and Harry, who wed in May 2018, live in Montecito, Calif., with their two children — Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.
The king’s rift with the couple became public in 2020 when they moved to the United States and ultimately quit their royal roles — not to mention, discussed their family’s drama in a Netflix docuseries, a bombshell memoir and more.
Harry opened up to BBC News in May about his desire to reconnect with Charles.
“There have been so many disagreements, differences, between me and some of my family,” he said at the time. “There’s no point in continuing to fight. … It would be nice to reconcile.”
The “Spare” author, however, is still estranged from his older brother, Prince William.
