‘Gilmore Girls’ Fans Thrilled By “Legendary” Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham Reunion at Emmys: “The Nostalgia Hit Me”
It’s officially fall, y’all! Well, technically the season doesn’t change until September 22, but since the 77th Emmy Awards gifted us a delightful Gilmore Girls reunion, we’re ready to start our annual rewatches early!
During Sunday night’s ceremony at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, who play TV’s iconic mother-daughter duo Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, reunited in honor of the show’s upcoming 25th anniversary on October 5, 2025.
And they didn’t just reunite, they stood together wearing stunning dresses before the recreated set of their Gilmore Girls house. So naturally, fans of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s hit dramedy got emotional!.
“25 years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage,” Graham said.
“In spite of our autumnal dominance, Gilmore was actually a very small show,” Bledel explained, and the two explained how little money the series had when it started out.
“If there was a birthday at The Drew Carey Show next door, they would send us their leftover sheet cake,” Graham explained. “We walked in circles in Burbank saying, ‘Hey, look how Connecticut it is here today!”
“We saved up all year long to have one snow episode,” Bledel recalled. “And then ER wet down their street and washed it all away,” Graham said, still holding a grudge. “They had Clooney, you couldn’t have let us have the damn snow?!” (Come on, Noah Wyle!)
What they lacked in financing, however, they made up for in great, lengthy, whip-smart scripts. So who better to present the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series?!
The award went to The Studio’s Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez. But as they made their acceptance speeches, Gilmore Girls fans far and wide basked in the glory of a Gilmore reunion in our year 2025.
Following Gilmore Girls’ seven-season run from 200 to 2007, Graham, Bledel, and a number of other original cast members reprised their roles on Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, a four-part revival series in 2016. The series famously ended with a major cliffhanger that left the door open for another potential return, so here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of the Gilmore girls, including the great Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore.
Despite Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s newest show, Étoile, winning an Emmy award for Outstanding Choreography For Scripted Programming, the series was unexpectedly canceled back in June. And while we were devastated to see it go, perhaps there’s time for another Gilmore Girls revival of sorts in the future. (Back in May, Gilmore Girls star Yanic Truesdale told Decider, “We all would be open!” when asked about potentially returning to Stars Hollow.)
So fingers crossed this isn’t the last Gilmore Girls reunion we get!
