Austin Ekeler exits with Achilles injury in Commanders nightmare

In a Thursday night NFL game with already a few injuries, one in the fourth quarter might be the most significant.

Commanders running back Austin Ekeler went down with a right Achilles injury before being carted off in a 27-18 loss to the Packers.

As Washington attempted to get back into the game, Ekeler delivered a chip block before running his route on a passing play, going down to the Lambeau Field turf as he then attempted to cut up the field.

He grabbed at his lower right leg as he went down to the grass.

He was helped off the field with the aid of staffers, not putting any pressure on his right leg.

Ekeler, in his second season with Washington, had eight carries for 17 yards before leaving the game.

The Commanders already had seen defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. exit with a quad injury when a Packers player fell onto him as he attempted to block a kick.

On the Green Bay side, Jayden Reed left early with a shoulder injury.
