Commanders’ Deatrich Wise Jr. carted off field in scary scene
Commanders defensive lineman Deatrich Wise Jr. was carted off in the second quarter of Thursday’s game between Washington and the Packers.
Wise, 31, was injured during a Packers extra point attempt that sent him to the ground in pain as his teammates gathered around him with concern.
He was trying to get through the line to block the attempt when a Packers player was being pushed by another Commanders player and inadvertently fell onto the right leg of Wise.
In a replay of the incident, Wise’s leg could be seen bending awkwardly as he fell.
Teammates came off the sideline and looked on with worry as the Commanders’ medical staff evaluated him on the field.
After he was loaded onto a cart, teammates gathered around him and patted him on the helmet before he was taken off the field.
Wise is in his ninth NFL season this year after signing with the Commanders in March on a one-year, $5 million deal.
His first eight years of his NFL career were spent with the Patriots.
He appeared in 126 games and started 61, making 314 tackles, 34 sacks, 12 passes defended and five forced fumbles in New England.
