‘The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Says Democrats Should’ve “Kept Their Mouths Shut” About Joe Biden’s Decline Ahead Of 2024 Election

With Kamala Harris‘ book, 107 Days, coming out later this month, the ladies of The View looked back at the former VP’s presidential campaign.

In an excerpt from her memoir, Harris opens up about the “recklessness” of former President Joe Biden‘s bid for re-election, which came to an end after his disastrous debate against President Donald Trump had Democrats calling on him to step down from the race. Among those was actor George Clooney, who penned an open letter about Biden’s cognitive decline, and months after Donald Trump beat Harris in the election, CNN anchor Jake Tapper released a book titled, Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.

According to Whoopi Goldberg, Harris would’ve had a better shot at beating Trump in the election if Democrats hadn’t made Biden’s apparent decline a public matter.

“The divisive, for me, is if the Democrats had kept their mouths shut and took care of this in-house as opposed to making it a public spectacle, I think people would’ve had a better feel about it,” she suggested on this morning’s episode of The View.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, however, felt the opposite was true. Speaking to concerns over Biden’s age, she said, “I do think that we’re afraid of ‘isms’ in this country and we should be. Sexism, racism, those are all horrible things. Ageism is a horrible thing. But there’s also biology and science and stats. Democrats have had five lawmakers die while in office. We have a razor-slim majority. Because of that, consequential legislation that is going to affect every American, that many of you are going to say is terrible for the country, has been able to be passed.”

Griffin added, “You could’ve had better numbers if you were willing to say it might be time to step aside.”

Goldberg rounded out the conversation by reminding her fellow co-hosts that there’s nothing that can be done about the outcome now.

“People love to go back and say what we should’ve done. We should’ve run a better campaign,” she said. “People wanted to hear what they heard. They got what they wanted. I don’t understand why we gotta re-litigate it. It happened. And now we’re all sitting in it. And it’s everybody’s fault.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
