All About the Actor’s Marriages
NEED TO KNOW
- Charlie Sheen has been married three times to Donna Peele, Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller
- The actor welcomed two daughters with Richards and two sons with Mueller
- Today, Sheen is single, and he’s open to finding love again
Charlie Sheen’s storied relationship history includes three trips down the aisle.
The Two and a Half Men star has been married three times. He first said “I do” to model Donna Peele in 1995, but the pair divorced within six months in early 1996. Sheen’s second wedding came in 2002 to actress Denise Richards; they split less than three years later in 2005. He wed for the third time in 2008 to real estate investor Brooke Mueller but their tumultuous relationship also ended in divorce in late 2010.
Nowadays, Sheen, who has been sober since 2017, leads a much quieter lifestyle and has been single for years. “My romantic life is as uneventful as it possibly could be,” Sheen told PEOPLE in September 2025. “It’s been that way for a long time.”
Still, Sheen isn’t completely shutting the door to finding love in the future. Marriage, however, is a different story.
“I am open to love again. If somebody walked through the door and it was the right time and you can’t deny it … absolutely,” he added. “Probably not marriage, though.”
The actor is opening up about his past — from his struggles with sobriety to his tumultuous relationships — in his debut memoir, The Book of Sheen, out Sept. 9 and the two-part Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, premiering Sept. 10.
Here’s a look back at Charlie Sheen’s marriages, from Donna Peele to Brooke Mueller.

Sheen met his first wife, model Donna Peele, while filming a commercial in New York City in July 1995, according to The New York Times.
After just a six-week courtship, the couple were married in Malibu, Calif., on Sept. 3, 1995.
“Just when I thought I was the luckiest guy alive, I just got a lot luckier,” he said following the nuptials, according to The Spokesman-Review. “She’s my best friend, and we’ve both found our soul mates.”
However, by February 1996, Sheen revealed that he and Peele were divorcing after less than six months of marriage, The New York Times reported.
In a two-part interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sheen revealed that he should have taken more time to get to know Peele prior to saying “I do” and shared that married life left him feeling like he “couldn’t breathe.”
“I had to come up for air,” Sheen added.
Denise Richards

Sheen and Richards first met on the set of the independent film Good Advice in 2000, but didn’t begin dating until the following fall, when Richards guest-starred on Sheen’s sitcom Spin City.
They had their first date on Oct. 4, 2001, watching a San Francisco Giants baseball game in Sheen’s apartment. By their second date, Richards knew Sheen was “the one,” she told PEOPLE.
“I knew that this is the one, but I wouldn’t tell him that,” she shared. “I didn’t want to scare him away by saying, ‘You’re my future husband!’ and have him run for the hills.”
Sheen was equally smitten and proposed while on vacation in Arizona on Dec. 26, 2001, less than three months after their first date. The couple wed on June 15, 2002, in an outdoor ceremony held at the estate of Spin City creator Gary David Goldberg in Brentwood, Calif.
Sheen and Richards welcomed two children together during their marriage. (The actor first became a father with the birth of his first child, daughter Cassandra, in December 1984 with his high school girlfriend Paula Profit.)
Sheen and Richards’ first daughter, Sami, was born on March 9, 2004. Fifteen months later, their second daughter, Lola Rose, was born on June 1, 2005.

But by the time of her birth, the actors’ relationship was on the rocks. Richards filed for divorce from Sheen in March 2005, when she was six months pregnant with Lola, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The couple briefly attempted to reconcile in August 2005, but ultimately moved forward with the divorce.
Their status as a married couple ended in November 2006 — nearly two years after Richards first filed paperwork — leaving them free to wed other people. However, their divorce was not finalized, as the division of assets and the couple’s custody agreement were not settled.
But their divorce didn’t signal the end of the drama for Sheen and Richards. Years later, though, the former couple appear to be in a better place. In February 2025, Richards told PEOPLE that Sheen has been “supportive since day one” and had sent her a “wonderful sweet positive text” ahead of the premiere of her Bravo reality show, Denise Richards & Her Wild Things.
Richards returned the favor in September 2025, attending the Los Angeles premiere of Sheen’s new Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen. The former couple made their first red carpet appearance together in nearly 20 years at the premiere, posing for photos together.

In 2006 — in the midst of his divorce from Richards — Sheen was introduced to real estate investor Brooke Mueller by their mutual friend Rebecca Gayheart. They became engaged in the summer of 2007 and married on May 31, 2008, in L.A., according to ABC.
“She’s just easy, and loving, and smart, and if everybody was just as happy to see me when I walk through a door as her, my life would be perfect,” Sheen said about Mueller during their engagement.
Shortly after their nuptials, the couple revealed that having kids together was the “next step.” Mueller was wishing for multiples, and she eventually got her wish: By August 2008, the newlyweds announced they were expecting twins. Their sons, Bob and Max, were born in March 2009, seven weeks premature.
After less than three years of marriage, a judge granted their divorce in February 2011, and it became official that May, per Entertainment Weekly.
Their kids currently split time between Mueller and Sheen.
“We have a fantastic relationship, and we have this pretty unique modern family over here where Charlie and I both live. And my kids are great,” Mueller said on the Hollywood Raw podcast with Dax Holt and Adam Glyn in September 2024.
She elaborated to PEOPLE in March 2025 about where she and Sheen stand, particularly regarding their sons. “We share custody, we co-parent without attorneys, which is great,” she said. “And I’m very grateful for that. The fact he gives me yet another chance shows his deep true heart underneath.”
