The Tinder Swindler‘s story isn’t over yet.
In 2022, the Netflix documentary alleged that Simon Leviev, whose real name is Shimon Hayut, scammed an estimated $10 million on Tinder by posing as the son of a diamond mogul. Though he denied the accusations — telling Inside Edition that he just “wanted to meet some girls” — multiple women claimed that he would charm and persuade them to loan him money.
Leviev was convicted of fraud, theft and forgery in December 2019, per the Times of Israel. Though he was sentenced to 15 months in prison, the same outlet reported that he was released after serving only five months.
The women he swindled remain in debt to this day. However, one of his victims is doing her part to end romance fraud.
In September 2025, Cecilie Fjellhøy teamed up with private investigator Brianne Joseph to uncover other romance scams in Netflix’s Love Con Revenge. She told Tudum that the docuseries was a way for her to use her experience to “help others heal, reclaim their voices, their power, and their lives.”
Leviev acknowledged the show days after its premiere, sharing on his Instagram Stories that he was watching it from what appeared to be a private plane. “Congratulations on the new show,” he wrote, tagging Fjellhøy and Netflix. “Even I’m watching it.”
Here’s everything to know about where Simon Leviev is now and what he’s been up to since the Netflix documentary’s release.
Who is Simon Leviev?

Though the fraudster is best known as the subject of the 2022 Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler, Leviev isn’t his real name. It’s just one of many aliases he used to scam millions and conceal his true identity, which was an Israeli fugitive named Shimon Hayut.
After fleeing fraud-related charges in his home country in 2011, Leviev relocated to Finland, where he spent two years in prison for defrauding three women.
He briefly returned to Israel in 2017 before fleeing to Europe again. Only this time, he changed his name from Shimon Hayut to Simon Leviev and claimed to be the son of real-life diamond mogul Lev Leviev.
Is Simon Leviev still on Tinder?

Though Leviev was still on Tinder when the documentary was released, the dating app has since banned him from the platform.
“We have conducted internal investigations and can confirm Simon Leviev is no longer active on Tinder under any of his known aliases,” Tinder said in a 2022 statement to Variety.
However, he has been active on Instagram, where his photos and videos show him living a luxurious lifestyle. He’s shared videos of himself driving a convertible full of roses, flying on a private jet and being guarded by a security team to stay safe from his “enemies.”
Shortly after Love Con Revenge was released, however, Leviev made his Instagram private.
Did Simon Leviev get sued?

Almost a month after the documentary’s release, Leviev was sued by the real Leviev diamond family. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the Israeli Russian diamond tycoon filed suit against him for allegedly impersonating them and unjustly enriching himself using their last name.
The lawsuit claimed that the infamous swindler had been “cunningly using false words, claiming to be a member of the Leviev Family, and that his family will pay and bear the costs of his benefits.”
The hearing was ultimately postponed until 2024, at which time Leviev represented himself in trial, per The Jerusalem Post.

Following the release of The Tinder Swindler, Leviev had set his sights on Hollywood. Entertainment Tonight reported in February 2022 that he had signed with a talent manager and hoped to pursue an entertainment career. He was also considering starting a podcast, writing a book or hosting a dating show.
So far, it looks like only one of those goals has worked out (though he did briefly join Cameo and allegedly made $30,000 in three days, per TMZ). In September 2025, Leviev announced on Instagram that he had written a book that promised to “finally tell the truth.”
“One day, I woke up — and the whole world thought they knew who I was,” he wrote in the caption alongside a photo of his book, titled The Story Behind the Man. “They watched a movie. They binged a TV series. They read sensational headlines … But nobody ever stopped to ask me what really happened.”
Leviev went on to say that he became a celebrity against his will and wanted to set the record straight.
“This book is the result of years of work … It’s not just a response to a Netflix documentary,” he continued. “It’s my life story — the full story. The details they left out. The moments they twisted. The lies they spread. I’m not here to make excuses. I’m here to speak. In my own words.”
The swindler concluded the post by asking his followers to read it and then decide what they believe.
