Andrew Cuomo set to walk the runway at Fashion Week event
It’s a fashion feud to rival Naomi vs. Tyra!
As the mayoral race becomes increasingly bitter, Eric Adams is even bickering about Fashion Week.
Andrew Cuomo is walking in a Fashion Week show. And mayoral rival Eric Adams isn’t about to take it lying down, insisting that he absolutely definitely could have stunned on the runway like the former governor — he’s simply more focused on important government matters to stand around all day smizing.
Cuomo will be walking in the “Style Across the Aisle” on Wednesday, we hear, at the historic Surrogate’s Court, along with more than 30 other pols.
Meanwhile, Adams’ rep Todd Shaprio tells Page Six, “There is no one who more defines the word fashion in government — from his walk to his talk — than the Mayor. There are some elected officials who still wear suits from the 1970s. As Cuomo walks the catwalk at this event, Mayor Adams will be hosting town hall meetings in the five boroughs.”
A source told us organizers had high hopes that Mayor Adams would show off his self-described swagger on the runway too. (We’re told he was invited as far back as July, but another source says he only got a heads up about the event 48 hours before it was set to begin).
“It’s way too fast for a man who has the run the city,” said an insider.
Shaprio added, “Adams would have loved to attended, but he has a city to run, not a runway.”
Skye Ostreicher, founder of Style Across the Aisle, tells us she is “still keeping my fingers crossed” that Adams will make a cameo.
Last year’s event was held at Gracie Mansion and Adams had been scheduled to walk before coming down with COVID.
Cuomo meanwhile has been prepping his strut in between campaign events.
“I’ve been practicing the runway walk in my apartment,” Cuomo quipped at a private fundraiser, a guest told us. “It’s not as easy as it looks. The turn at the end of the runway coming back the other way — it’s like a half pirouette — doing that gracefully while opening the jacket to show the lining. It’s difficult, but I have another week to practice.”
Cuomo will be dressed by designer Gina Newman of Bond & Bari Bespoke.
We hear the veteran politician will be stepping out of his sartorial comfort zone by wearing a bright blue suit with a vintage lining with pictures of old skyscrapers and figures like Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio.
“He was charming and kind and thoughtful and open for everything and let me do my job without hesitation,” Newman tells us. “He was like, ‘I trust you — whatever you think, I am game.’”
Former Governor David Paterson, assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, former Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Council Majority Leader Amanda Farias and Minority Leader Joann Ariola are also set to strut their stuff.
The ticketed event, sponsored by Uber and Airbnb, will benefit Witness to Mass Incarceration. The organization’s Art of Tailoring program trains in fashion design and business skills.
They are taking part in the show, creating looks for Assemblymember Eddie Gibbs, Councilmember Julie Won and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.
