At least 10 people have been killed and dozens injured after a train collided with a double-decker passenger bus in Mexico, officials said.
The incident occurred in an industrial zone in Atlacomulco on the morning of Monday, Sept. 8, when a train crashed into a bus from the Herradura de Plata line, according to an English translation of a statement from the Mexico’s State Civil Protection Agency.
The Associated Press reported that in addition to the 10 fatalities, more than 40 others were injured.
The Red Cross, State Police, National Guard and other agencies responded to the incident, officials added. The victims have not yet been publicly identified.
The AP reported that video footage from the crash shared across social media appeared to show the bus crawling forward across the train tracks before the train plowed into it at a high speed.
A similar video seemed to show survivors moving about the upper tier of the damaged bus as the train slowed.
Representatives from the bus company and the State of Mexico’s Civil Protection Agency could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE to provide additional details about the crash or the status of the surviving victims.

There did not appear to be any guardrails to prevent vehicles from driving into the train’s path as it moved through the busy area, the AP reported.
Rebeca Miranda told the outlet that her sister and her sister’s daughter-in-law were both on the bus when it was hit; her sister was hospitalized, but her sister’s daughter-in-law died.
“It’s really unfortunate. Why? To beat the train. Those are lives,” she said.
