A Wedding Crasher Was Seen on Camera Taking $60,000 Gift Box — and Police Think They Know Who Did It

Two people were arrested after a newlywed couple in California reported that about $60,000 in cash and checks had been stolen from their wedding gift box.

Using surveillance video, Armean Shirehjini was identified as the primary suspect in the theft, which occurred during a wedding reception at the Renaissance Banquet Hall in Glendale on Aug. 31, the Glendale Police Department said in a press release on Sept. 5.

Police said the suspect ran out of the venue and into a black SUV driven by a second person. The car then fled the scene.

According to police, Shirehjini and his alleged getaway driver, Andranik Avetisyan, were arrested on Sept. 4.

“Detectives executed search warrants at both suspects’ residences and recovered a large amount of cash and dozens of checks made out to the victims from the wedding,” police alleged.

Police also claimed they recovered “several firearms and various narcotics” from both homes.

The couple, George and Nadeen Farahat, spoke to local outlets about the shocking incident.

“He’s watching the dance floor, watching our family. It’s so scary to look back and see that there was a stranger at such a private and intimate event,” bride Nadeen told ABC 7

As for George, he told KTLA that the party was “wonderful until the incident took place.”

“As is tradition in our culture, most people give cash or checks as gifts for the newlyweds, so there was a box containing all the envelopes, the cards, the money from family and friends who were invited,” he added, per the outlet.
