A Texas mom says her Child Protective Services case has been closed a month after her 2-year-old daughter drowned and then recovered in a backyard pool.
“I just got a letter from CPS,” shared Mara, known across social media to her hundreds of thousands of followers as “TheAmazingMara,” in a Sept. 7 video on TikTok. “It’s been about six weeks that we’ve had CPS in our lives.”
In the update, Mara said that the agency had ruled that it was “unable to determine” the accusation of neglectful supervision and that CPS had closed its case.
PEOPLE has reached out to Texas Department of Family and Protective Service — which oversees CPS — for comment.
Mara, a mom of six, first shared the scary news that her daughter had drowned in her backyard pool on July 30, posting a TikTok with the text, “Sunny fell into a backyard pool & was found floating face down.”
“She was pulled from the water & cpr immediately started while I called 911,” the post continued. “Thankfully they got her breathing again. She is admitted to hospital & has been doing very well.”

Three days later, the content creator continued to open up about the day of the incident, telling her followers on TikTok that she had been watching several of her kids alongside four other adults while they were swimming in a backyard pool, when she went into her home for two minutes to change her baby’s clothes.
“I don’t blame any of them, but the one,” she said, not revealing the identity of the other adults involved. “I looked him right in the eye, and I said, ‘I have to go change the baby. Come watch the kids.’ I looked him right in the eye and I said that, and he looked back at me, and he nodded, and he said, ‘OK.’ ”
“I did all of those things,” she claimed in the emotional clip. “Why would I think that he was going to look away?”

In an Aug. 12 update answering her followers’ questions about the incident and its aftermath, she confirmed that CPS was “involved” and had opened up a case regarding her daughter’s drowning.
Two days later, she revealed that a CPS social worker interviewed Mara and her daughter’s father at the hospital, and a CPS case worker interviewed the parents and their children at their home and did a “home walk-through.”
In her most recent update, Mara said that it was “nice” that the CPS case was closed and to not have the agency “looming over” her family, but said she wished there was more “punishment to the person who caused it.”
