He added, “He’s just one in a million, and he’s just that kind of guy that walks into a room and everyone is just … everyone is just really happy to see him, and he brings positive energy to anything he does.”

Community members have since created a memorial at the site of the accident, which Wes said has grown in size by the day.

“People came in [and] added things that meant something to them. They brought their flowers to show respect and everything, put candles up, and I’m just really happy with how well it turned out,” he told CBS 21.

Wes also said that players took a knee to pray for William while he was still in the hospital during a recent game.

“It was a heavy moment,” he recalled. “We were all just still in shock about the news for him, but you know, after we prayed and stuff, I feel like it helped a lot of us out.”

Wes went on to tell the outlet that he hopes William’s family feels supported during this difficult time.

“I just want them to know that they have thousands of people from not just in the community but from all over the state, and even in other states […] that knew Will and just really want them to know that we’re here for them, and we’re just trying our best to help them through this difficult process right now,” he said.

In a notice sent to parents, Warwick School District stated that counseling and support will be provided to students.

“Will’s death will likely impact a significant number of staff and students, and we will continue to support students and staff throughout this difficult time now and during the school year,” read the notice, according to Lancaster Online and CBS 21.

PEOPLE reached out to the Warwick School District for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

A GoFundMe has been established to help William’s family during this difficult time. As of Sept. 4, it had raised $47,645 toward an ultimate goal of $55,000.
