Mom Mad After Husband Left Their Kid to Watch Baby While He Mowed Lawn

A mom who returned home from running an errand was surprised to notice her husband not watching their children while she was away.
She explained on the community forum Mumsnet that she is “furious” after her husband left their kids inside the house while he moved the lawn.
“I come back to find my husband out the back mowing the lawn, all very pleased with himself,” she recalled. “He had apparently told our 8-year-old daughter to ‘keep an eye on’ the baby while he did it. Baby is 16 months.”

Upon re-entering their home, the wife was shocked at what she saw.
“I walked in to find our baby in the living room COVERED in biro scribbles,” she said, referring to drawings made with a ballpoint pen on their baby. “Face, arms, even a bit on her sleepsuit. Our daughter said she was ‘playing schools’ and my husband thinks it is hilarious. I did not.”
However, the concerned mother did not find this amusing and listed some ways things could have gone terribly wrong with them unsupervised.
“I am SO angry,” she wrote of her reaction. “Yes, our baby is fine, but that is not the point. What if she had choked on a pen lid? What if she had fallen? An 8-year-old is a CHILD, not a babysitter.”

She added, “My husband is saying I am overreacting and that it was ‘only 15 minutes.’ I think he has lost his mind.”
Other Mumsnet users chimed in with their opinions in the comments.
“I think your husband was reasonable,” one reader replied, while another wrote, “Your 8-year-old has been naughty. That’s what you need to deal with, rather than ‘fuming’ at your husband.”

While many people agreed with that sentiment, a few did not.
“I don’t agree with the majority — I wouldn’t leave an 8-year-old to watch a small baby, far too risky and anything can happen,” a third Mumsnet user said, adding, “I’d be livid with my husband as well!”
