Drew Barrymore Shares Daughter Was in the E.R. for Days After E-Bike Accident

Drew Barrymore is sharing why her daughter spent a few days of their European vacation in the emergency room.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, the actress, 50, appeared on Late Night with Stephen Colbert and spoke about her close friendship with Stephen Colbert’s wife, Evelyn. Barrymore explained that the last time she was supposed to see her, she had to cancel because her daughter got in an e-bike accident.

“The last time we were supposed to get together, my daughter ended up having an accident. I was like calling her…” Barrymore says.

“And she’s fine,” Colbert adds in.

“She’s fine, yes. Everything’s fine. My daughter, actually she got in an e-bike accident. In France, which sounds so fabulous,” Barrymore teases. “Yes, so we were in fabulous France and then she had an e-bike accident.”

“And she was like a mile out in the mountains and ripped her whole elbow open. It was completely just, we spent days in an E.R. in and out, she’s fine,” the mom of two says. “But she ripped off her bra and turned it into a tourniquet, and I was like…”

Colbert jumps in and says that Barrymore raised her daughters right and asks if she’d prepped her daughter at all.

“No! That’s just who she is. And I just marvel at her,” Barrymore shares.

Back in May, Barrymore was joined by guest and fellow mom Mindy Kaling on an episode of her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, and shared that her two daughters are close with her friend and frequent collaborator Adam Sandler’s daughters.

“I feel like it’s a really good sign of a good soul and good parenting when older kids are not dismissive of younger kids,” she told Kaling. “It’s funny, like not to drop names, but Adam Sandler’s daughters, Sunny and Sadie, are so good to my daughters.”

“Olive and Frankie are 10 and 12, and they like hang out. I always tell Jackie — Adam’s wife — what a good mom that she is and what good parents they are because their daughters always take younger ones under their wing.”

This past April, Barrymore shared that she’s been getting ready for her daughter Olive’s bat mitzvah in September. Barrymore asked Seth Rogen, who is Jewish and appeared on her show, for advice ahead of the big day.

“My daughter is about to have her bat mitzvah in September. She’s been in Hebrew school,” Barrymore began. “Any advice?”

“That’s a good question. My partner [Evan Goldberg], who I work with, I met him in bar mitzvah class,” Rogan shared. “So what I would say is the people she’s in class with, she could forge relationships with for the rest of her life.”
