Why Michael Jordan and his wife were special guests of Jalen Hurts
Michael Jordan’s second football game of the week went way better than the first.
Jordan was spotted with his wife, Yvette Prieto, in a suite Thursday during the Eagles’ 24-20 season-opening win over the Cowboys as a guest of Philadelphia star quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“Yeah, you have a special guest, a special friend in attendance, there’s only one thing you can do and that’s win,” Hurts said.
Hurts joined Jordan Brand’s NFL roster in Aug. 2023 and is one of its signature athletes after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl last year.
The NBC broadcast of Philadelphia’s win Thursday night focused on Jordan with the game in a weather delay and the QB sporting the new Air Jordan 11 “Love Hurts” sneakers.
Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth discussed the famous photo of Hurts taking in the gravity of his Super Bowl victory while smoking a cigar with the Lombardi Trophy between his legs — and compared it to the emotion Jordan showed after winning some of his six NBA championships.
Thursday’s win wasn’t quite as pretty as the dominant 40-22 Super Bowl 2025 victory over the Chiefs in February.
Hurts did most of his damage with his legs as Dallas bottled up Philadelphia’s receiving duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Hurts scored the Eagles’ first two touchdowns with rushes in a back-and-forth first half before both offenses struggled in the final 30 minutes.
He appeared to do the “Jordan shrug” after scoring the Eagles’ first touchdown.
Hurts fittingly put the game away with a four-yard run on third-and-3 that allowed the Eagles to kneel the ball to run the final 90 seconds off the clock.
“I’m proud of everybody weathering the different adversities that came our way today,” Hurts said. “It’s always good to get a win.”
Jordan started his week taking in Bill Belichick’s North Carolina debut with other Tar Heels legends — but that ended with them getting embarrassed, 48-14, by TCU.
He and Prieto often spend their summers on their yacht in Europe, but have started their fall with some football.
