Jenna Bush Hager may have had to miss her kids’ first day of school, but they made sure to send her a photo to make up for it.

The Today with Jenna & Friends host shared on a Thursday, Sept. 4 episode that her kids went off for their first day of the new school year. She shared a photo of her three kids — daughters Mila, 12, and Poppy, 10, and son Hal, 6 — which showed them holding up signs that read which year they were going into.

“I made them hold those signs,” Bush Hager said. “Kinder, seventh grade and fourth grade, which I can’t believe. But they had such a good day!”

“You know, I think sometimes, and I know you’ve felt this, as a parent, we can’t be at everything. So to miss the first day was hard, but the other thing is, kids are so resilient,” she continued. “Humans are so resilient.”

Bush Hager said she was able to call her kids and get an update on how their first day went.

“I called and I’m like, ‘Hey, how was the first day?’ And Hal was like, ‘It was so different than pre-K. Kindergarten is so much harder,’ ” she explained. “And then I talked to Mila, and she was like, ‘I already have homework! Seventh grade is so hard!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, these kids are alright.’”

At the end of August, Bush Hager shared an Instagram video post featuring family photos from her Italy vacation. The Today With Jenna & Friends host posed alongside her husband Henry Hager and their three kids.

The family of five visited several historical sites, from Roman basilicas to the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, even sampling authentic Italian gelato.

“We ❤️ Roma! We will miss our home outside of Rome! @romecavalieri,” Bush Hager wrote in the caption, thanking the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria hotel for their stay.

Bush Hager also shared photos of their luxury resort, which featured a pool flanked by palm trees and striking views of the ancient city.
